If GMA is serious bout this, she's NUTS!

It's better if the students have a choice on what language they want to learn. Like Spanish, Mandarin, French etc. Just don't stuff Spanish down their throats.

From high school to college, Spanish was part of the curriculum, but I had no interest whatsoever in learning it, and up till now I still have to use the Spanish I learned. What a waste of time.

Kung anu-ano na naiisip ni GMA. He-he! Pwede siguro, gawing optional sa mga schools like ROTC.

Pero meron tayong place (province) na Spanish speaking yung mga locals like sa Zamboanga at yung sa Ternate, Cavite. I once went to Ternate, and I was surprised, that the folks there speak Spanish (or Chavacano?). Pa'no nangyari yun? Anybody who can enlighten us about this?

the three most important languages in the World that one should learn:

    1. English
    2. Spanish
    3. Chinese

i will have to add (for oil and industrial business purposes):

    4. Russian
    5. Arabic
    6. German

German is just like math, it's very easy.

    Spanish is an art.

Russian is a still a puzzle to me at this time but i'm improving by the day (my bosses are Russian oil magnates).

Arabic, i wanna learn it to understand the culture more of the Arabs.

Chinese, I have to learn it.

Learning another language is required these days to be global.

However, a foreign language being declared an official language? Hhmmm...

German very easy? hmmm...German grammar is very difficult compared to English. Spoken German without a strict consideration to grammar is probably easy just like the Japanese.

Ranking Russian and Arabic over German? here's my ranking (being in engineering/manufacturing industry for 15 years now)...

    4. Japanese - because of JIS/JAS
    5. German - because of DIN
    6. Russian - don't know Russian industrial standard being noted in international standards.

learning more language is not a bad idea actually...but putting back Spanish as official language and requiring ALL college students to spend extra hundred hours and money to learn Spanish is not a good idea. maybe for those taking foreign service or planning to work abroad in specific field and in specific region is ok.
