April 1st, 2011 12:33 PM #41Dati nga mas mataas pa GDP/capita natin sa Indonesia. Ngayon doble na yata nila tayo. It wouldn't surprise me if Myanmar overtakes us as we become more and more of a laughing stock in ASEAN.

April 1st, 2011 04:51 PM #42if SMB reinvigorates the pretentious 4G Wi-Tribe Concept, that'll mean the end of voice calls thru gsm. sa bilis ng 4G, VOIP will have an even more higher bandwidth than what is running our call centers.
that's why this is so interesting ... one area that will greatly improve and this is good news for the young and wannabe politicians, govt. projects. it seems that the Government will be able to get connected once and for all coz of cheaper hardware connects. sobrang dami kickbacks na naman nyan, and this time it's not public infrastructures but information infrastructures
i really doubt MVP, PLDT, Salim, Smart & Sun can dominate. their Genghis Khan techniques will fail bec. they are conquering old technologies.

You indeed have a point there. But I doubt that PLDT will just let new technology beat them. They also have the financial capacity to upgrade their system as they just recently asked Huawei to bid for 2,000 cellsite upgrades. It will now be posibble to broadcast both Smart and Sun in the same cellsite. Iba rin talaga technology na ginagawa ng huawei as proven by their huge investments in R&D.

It's not the fear of the end of unlimited texting and calling...
...more on it's the fear of the end of market-driven innovation and competitive strategies.
Sun was the one that first provided the unlimited services. Globe and Smart were forced to follow suit, else face continued market loss.
Now that Sun is bought by Smart, it is expected that they'll be in 'maintain status quo' mode. Minimal services, maximum profits.
Hopefully, this new SMB player could do a Sun and introduce something that is a boon to consumers, and force other telecoms to follow suit.
Cheaper unlimited data rates, hopefully?

NTC clears PLDT acquisition of Digitel
Thursday, October 27, 2011 00:00
Darwin G. Amojelar, Senior Reporter
THE National Telecommunications Commission on Wednesday approved PLDT’s takeover of third-ranked Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc. after the country’s largest telecom company agreed to divest some of its frequency, among other conditions the regulator set.
In a briefing, Gamaliel Cordoba, NTC commissioner, told reporters that the application of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. to acquire 51.55 percent of Digitel from JG Summit Holdings Inc. for P69.2 billion was approved with certain terms and conditions.
“We would like to assure the general public that the PLDT-Digitel transaction will not result in a monopoly and bring about unhealthy business competition that will be detrimental to the interests of millions of telecom users and subscribers,” Cordoba said.
He said that the regulator has initiated steps to prevent abuse of market power arising from substantial market dominance that could lead to cutthroat competition, by imposing certain conditions on the transaction that would protect the interest of the consumers.
The NTC ordered the PLDT group to divest 10 megahertz of its 3G frequency held by unit Connectivity Unlimited Resource Inc.
Sources earlier told this reporter that PLDT would give up the 3G frequency of CURE because it is in the lower frequency band.
CURE’s uplink frequency bandwidth is in the 1955 Mhz-1965 Mhz range and its downlink frequency in the 2145 Mhz-2155 Mhz range.
In contrast, PLDT unit Smart Communication Inc.’s frequency is in the 1920-1935 Mhz/2110-2125Mhz range, and so has the least amount of interference and allows for the clearest over-the-air transmission.
Digitel’s 10 Mhz of 3G frequency is in the 1925Mhz-1945Mhz and 2125 Mhz-2135Mhz range. Second-ranked Globe Telecom Inc., which has insisted on the divestment, holds the 10 Mhz frequency under the 1945Mhz-1955 Mhz and 2135-2145 Mhz bandwidth.
Cordoba said another condition for the approval of the PLDT-Digitel deal is the continous offering of a nationwide “unlimited” type of service to the public through Digitel’s Sun Cellular.
In addition, PLDT and Digitel are required to continue providing high quality service to their respective subscribers.
“With their combined expertise and resources, it is expected that PLDT and Digitel will attain improved capability in providing better quality and more affordable services to their fixed line, mobile, wireless and broadband subscribers,” Cordoba said.
He said the PLDT-Digitel application did not require congressional approval based on the “equality of treatment in the telecommunications industry” provision of the Public Telecommunications Act.

ok lang yan para magsara na ang bulok na overhype na Globe! ang bulok ng signal ng Globe tapos barat pa sa mga loyalty program, laging meron cash out while sa Smart libre lang mga gadgets.
