i would have prefered a "no comments yet. it is still under investigation."
it could save a lot of feet from mouths.

The type of material burning, close space, people in panic and stampede, you have 5 minutes tops, before smoke knocks you out. The ozone disco fire in QC decades ago killed more than 150 in less than 1 hour.

I dont think this is an ISIS tied terrorist attacked.
Its a botched robbery, burn casino tables to cause stampede and confusion to cover his escape.

The guman went to the chips first. To cart away 113M, this guy is very familiar with chip denominations.
He has a semi and yet he shoots into the air instead of shooting directly towards the hotel guest and employees. This alone showed it is not his motive to directly harm the people in the casino.
Compare to the truck driver in London who drove his truck with intent to kill, and uses a knife later.

Although by definition, his action is a form of terrorism, but this is not the same type of terrorisim that can be tied to ISIS.

    As for Alvarez statement..........
We all know a terrorist angle will favor his master desire to put the entire Philippines umder Martial Law.

Dapat mga motel na condominium type eh sana working sprinkler system and sana may sensor bintana magopen pag may usok or anything basta makalabas usok. Mas makipot sa mga ganyan.

Pero garage type motel mas safe.

i have in the course of 26 years gone through maybe 6 or 7 fire fighting training courses. the best i've gone to was a 5-day intensive course in new orleans, la. let me just share ONE important info i learned.

the best way to survive a fire is to drop on the floor and crawl out. if you stand up you will most probably die. the reason is smoke rises and fills the upper part of any space first. this smoke is toxic, obstructs your vision, can easily make a person unconscious with just 1 breath, and is at high temperature. drop down to all fours and the air is clean, at a much lower temperature and clear enough to see through. smoke kills.

in fact smoke is the bigger killer when it comes to death by fire. it is a common misconception that people who perish in a blaze are burnt to death. not true. when a fire such as that what happened in rwm kills it is because people die first from smoke. then when the fire engulfs the building that is the only time the bodies, already dead, get burnt.

there is also a tendency for people to go to the bathrooms or toilets to escape a fire, wrongly thinking that since the t&b is enclosed in concrete and has water that they will be able to survive there. unfortunately bathrooms also draw in smoke since building ventillation systems are designed to exhaust from those rooms. the make-up air in a building is sucked in where the air handling units are and the air that is already low in oxygen has to be discharged somewhere. the most convenient place is the toilet since you do not recirculate the air in there due to the odor. so as the air is drawn in to the toilets by the exhaust fans the smoke is also drawn in, making the toilet a smoke trap.

i have also some basic training sa fire fighting as a requirement in working on/off shore.

agree with you, it's the smoke that kills due to suffocation. so it's really not funny when people say usok lang bakit ang daming namatay. kapag na trap na sa room and there is no way out, tendency talaga is to run in the bathroom. parang survival instinct na rin ng tao yan kasi nga may tubig. but it's really a trap kasi ventilation ng banyo mas kulob, you only have the expeller fan and a small window.

OT: one of my college batchmates and friend died in the ozone fire (RIP). we were reviewing for the board exam that time and he was invited by the daughter of their landlady along with 2 other friends. all his 3 lady companions survived as they managed to ran out of the front door before the fire spreads. he was not lucky as he was trampled in the stampede as everyone rushed in to go out in the front door. he died probably due to the stampede and suffocation, then get burnt. we barely recognized him, we only identified him with the shoes he's wearing which he bought in isetann/recto 3 days before the incident.

Hindi mahirap bumili ng kerosene, pero dapat mahirap magpasok ng kerosene (at armalite) sa loob ng casino.

    parang martilyo gang

on an ordinary day at a mall

would anyone think a group of men would buy hammers at the hardware store inside the mall and use those hammers to break jewelry displays and cause mall-goers to panic?

    Looks convincing enough.

Mukhang he got lost during the escape... And he used up his ammo shooting at the door locks to the vault.

Mga bobong nagmamarunong sir. Me mga karugtong na HAHAHAHAHA pa minsan.

So it seems that the sprinklers did activate, as the fires didn't spread....but it's disturbing that so many people still died.
