AKA socialism in disguise, or at the very least populist.

I would just like to remind people that free stuff is NOT free. The taxpayers PAY for them.

    Tricky balancing act.

There is no denying that some forms of social support services help to uplift a country's economy.

The big question is how much is too much and how little is too little.

In 2001, socialized housing cost us 2% of GNP.

Wonder what I would find if i dig at educ and health.

The question is whether it helped or not. Granted, the desire to make housing more affordable, via laws passed under Bush, Clinton and Dubya, is what led to the subprime bubble.

In Singapore, on the other hand, providing affordable housing and housing financing helped create the middle class boom that fueled the city's economy through the 20th Century.

The price bubble isn't about socialized housing. It's about speculative hot money inflows. Ultra-high demand and stable economy mean everyone wants to buy real estate there.

And as noted in zerohedge, it's part of a regional trend, not specific to Singapore alone.

Yipee-kay-yay... we're heading for another AFC...

Yeah... the question is COST EFFECTIVENESS. I dug deep into that housing mess and we not be solving anything under the current system. YET, we spend 2% of the GNP on it.

We could spend all the treasury but still be neck deep in problems.

Also, it is as if we do not have a middle class boom in this country.

About half-right. Had me nodding till about half-way through the video when he turned it into a partisan rant against Ameircan liberal political positions without accepting how this also afflicts American conservatives. (I do agree with him on the hypocrisy of those positions, however).

It is perfectly possible to be pragmatic without having an ideology. Or to derive an ethical values system absent of ideology.

if you ask me what's also not being discussed, it's the impossible "virtue" known as altruism being promoted

how can a person help others without desiring it first?

and there's also the value of the individual constantly set aside for the sake of the group

I won't be surprised if these stuff are pushed through even more in the coming years
