Say P-Noy does get "emergency powers" soon, what does that mean exactly, and how will that solve the power crisis, given that the only (technical) solution is to put up more power plants, which should have been done 3-5 years ago?

Emergency powers in the sense that supply contracts, building power plants, etc. can be approved without going through the usual red tape?

Impose price controls despite losses on the part of the power generators?

    Maybe even institutionalize power plants?

Paki clear naman po sirs ^_^

Emergency powers would mean no more bidding(s) needed.

The President can sign power contracts left and right and WITH guaranteed revenue,- without the regular check and balance.

    Ala FVR..... Wild Wild West....

Can you share the size of your grid tie system and the quotation you got? Thanks

Solar power is definitely the way to go if you own your house. Lalo na ngayon we have net metering.

    How sad for us renters

Emergency powers = another FVR moment and decades of high electricity costs.

^mahal pa nga ang solar panels. but i look at it as an investment nalang. 10-25 years naman ang warranty ng mga components. and with our current cost of electricity, around 4years ang ROI sa amin based on my computation. so pag tumaas pa cost ng electricity, mas maikli pa ROI.

and hindi na ako depende sa Meralco masyado during the day time

Kung sobra-sobra ang powerplant eh bakit kulang daw sabi nang DOE? Or dati (FVR days) sobra supply kaya need taasan singil kasi guaranteed revenue eh, pero ngayon kulang na supply kaso mahal pa din binabayaran nang gov't (due to again the guaranteed income) kaya wala budget for a new powerplant?

Nung kakaupo lang ni FVR, i remember a spate of brownouts that lasted 5-6 hours daily; knee-jerk reaction is to put up more power plants, pero naging problem yung transmission ng power. Kaso me kontrata na, so i guess in effect the government was contract-bound to pay for something that they can't use.

i guess the logical, forward-thinking way to do it is to forecast consumption and build power plants in anticipation of demand. Then again, this is the PH government we're talking about.

Sana ang gawin na lang is to make sure X amount of megawatts are added to the grid each year, whatever the method, be it via emergency powers or the usual bidding. Hindi kasi talaga magsisync yung emergency powers with the current/future power crises kung biglaan.

    Hindi talaga gagana knee-jerk reaction.

Sana nga parang privat company ang gov't. Forward thinking palagi. At may investment hindi yung ganyang lagi na lang dahilan kapos sa pondo.

you do not directly draw power from your solar panels.. your system will have a deep cycle battery and inverter to power your appliances.. the solar panel and controller will charge your battery
