MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – A plane carrying Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo crashed on its way to the Masbate airport, a Masbate official confirmed Saturday, August 18.

In an interview on ANC, Masbate Vice Governor Vince Revil said the plane crashed in the sea, "150 meters away from the province's airport."

He said the aide de camp of Robredo survived, but the DILG chief's condition is still unknown.

He added search and rescue operations are underway.

"We have yet to confirm the status of the passengers," he said. "There are rescue operations being done now... trying to determine if there are [more] survivors."

A vigil has begun in the National Shrine of the Divine Child inside the La Salle Greenhills (LSGH) campus in Mandaluyong City for the intention of the successful rescue of Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Jesse Robredo and others missing from his flight. We ask those who wish to join our fellow citizens in prayer to go to LSGH and join their fellow citizens at this time of deep concern. We ask that you keep the families of Secretary Robredo and those still missing, and those engaged in rescue efforts in your prayers as well.

Im praying that he survives. He is a good man, a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award ( Nobel prize equivalent for Asians) for government service in 2000. Wala pa akong narinig na masamang issue or kaso na inilaban sa kanya

Putek, kung mangyayari man ito, sana naman hindi sa isang katulad ni Robredo.... Mas karapatdapat namang sa ibang corrupt na lang
