    November 3, 2013
    philippine trade DEFICIT with asean

The Philippines, one of the original ASEAN members, has been on the losing end, consistently incurring huge trade deficits with the region as ASEAN countries export more duty-free products here as against fewer Philippine exports to the region.

Based on a recent presentation made by Trade and Industry Undersecretary Adrian S. Cristobal Jr., the Philippines has been incurring huge trade deficits with ASEAN for the past five years.

Marami tayong natural resources pero since lahat sila dumaraan sa gobyerno kinukurakot. The Philippine government hand is reverse midas touch, everything they touch turns into sh*t.

exactly there's no ASEAN country that can match PH with regards to remittance...there are at least 10 millions Filipinos either living or working or both abroad and many of them send money to PH. Only China and Inda can beat PH in remittance.

tingnan nga natin kung ano standing ng mga ASEAN countries pag dating sa remittance

PH is world's 3rd biggest remittance recipient in 2012 - WB

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines is expected to be the third biggest recipient of remittances this year, the World Bank said.

In a report, the World Bank said the Philippines will share the third spot with Mexico. The report estimated overseas-based Filipinos will send home $24 billion in 2012.

India is expected to be the top recipient of remittances with $80 billion, followed by China with $66 billion.

The World Bank noted growth in remittances showed the euro zone crisis did not have a significant impact on the amount of money sent by migrant workers to their home countries.

"Although migrant workers are, to a large extent, are largely affected by the slow growth in the global economy, remittance volumes remain remarkably resilient, providing a vital lifeline to not only poor families but a steady and reliable source of foreign currency in many countries," Hans Timmer, director of the World Bank’s development prospects group, said.

The World Bank's estimate of $24 billion in remittances for the Philippines in 2012 is higher than the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' estimate of $21.1 billion.

Last year, remittances to the Philippines stood at $20.1 billion.

The government estimates there are at least 10 million overseas Filipino workers.

actually, if you analyse the data...the general trend shows that PH is doing good because deficit is getting smaller and smaller. From USD7.5B in 2008 to USD4.3B in 2012. That means PH is gaining advantage even if you consider oil exports and so on...much more if you exclude those other items...the deficit is only USD0.554B in 2012 compared to USD2.291B in 2008. So your thread title "PHL losing out in ASEAN, incurs huge trade deficit" is WRONG!...PH is WINING in trade deficit against the ASEAN countries.
