hmmm, i think i'm gonna steer clear of edsa/ortigas this weekend
Dito lumalabas ang Pinoy style na gustong parating nauuna. Hindi makapaghintay na sila naman mamuno kaya people power na lang ng people power. The people of EDSA 1 probably did not think na after 20 years na magkakaganito ang pinas. As for me I reallly wanted to join yung edsa 2 because at that time sa tingin ko tama ang pinaglalaban(pero di ako pinayagan ni mommy). Pero ngayon, panay selfish interest nalang ang itinataguyod nila, led by their communist leaders, (satur, casino et. al). I just read a brilliant column from maz soliven this morning, it would not hurt if you take a quick read. http://www.philstar.com/philstar/NEWS200602232602.htm
Probably not. OT lang... the next "people power" gathering may not be a "bloodless coup" anymore. I can foresee a lot of people getting killed.
Doc Doom,
I would agree on you on Marcos role in EDSA 1. He made it bloodless while Ver wanted a brawl. However, in his 20 years as president, it was marred by oppression, torture, corruption, which was nearly embedded in our culture.
Karding,
I was for four days at EDSA 1. Nobody paid nobody there. I tell you, it was a special feeling that united us all. If that special feeling was not there, it would be just another mass action. Just like any other mass action we are having now.

I didn't really think he'd step down, but just like in EDSA I, when he saw that he didn't have the complete loyalty of the Army or the Police, he figured enough was enough. Unconstitutional nga lang yung pag-tanggal sa kanya ng SC, but, oh well...![]()
Another underestimated hero of EDSA II was probably Ping Lacson. I dislike him because of his party loyalties, but he managed to do the right thing without being disloyal to his government or his President. He merely stepped aside and let the peaceful protest run its course.
Now EDSA III was a payola. I remember during the Alay Lakad, one group made up numbers by hiring the same "hakot" group that helped build numbers at EDSA III.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
That's how people judge things. We judge using our emotions. I was merely talking about the positive side of Ferdinand Marcos, and yet people will have to insist that you talk also about his negative side.Originally Posted by Mguy
The point I'm saying is that we all know about the tortures and oppressions, but when it comes to leadership qualities, no one among his succesors even came close.
I wouldnt bother going, the event itself has already lost its meaning and is now being used for the personal interests of other parties and individuals.
Bahala sila!!!
1) yeah we've all heard about Marcos not letting Ver and his trigger-happy cohorts shoot the crowd at EDSA 1
2) no matter what the Marcos apologists say, he was a dictator who plundered this country blind. I know people personally who were tortured and oppressed by Marcos' machinery, so don't go saying he was such a great guy.
3) sure Marcos had leadership qualities. So did Adolf Hitler. In fact he nearly took over the world.
the true heroes of edsa 1 & 2 are the people. not enrile/ramos/sin etc....we made it happen.we were there at edsa 2 ourselves and the atmosphere was something else...money can't buy that experience...kaya nga nakakahinayang because it gives others the gumption to poke fun at edsa kasi the opportunity was squandered by supposed leader/s who we handed the leadership to on a silver platter....ni wala naman sila sa edsa

THREE big rallies will be held in Metro Manila on Friday to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first people power and at the same time press for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's ouster, a lawmaker at the House of Representatives disclosed on Thursday.
Bayan Muna Partylist Representative Teodoro Casiņo said some 40,000 protesters were expected to show up in demonstrations at the Liwasang Bonifacio, along Ayala Avenue, and at the historic People Power Monument in Ortigas.
"It will be simultaneous rallies and we are studying if we can sustain them until Saturday," Casiņo said in a telephone interview.
"We will not only relive People Power 1 but we'd also like to apply it to President Arroyo by pressing for her ouster," he said.
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) secretary-general Renato Reyes said only about 2000 to 3000 people were expected to converge in Ortigas for a program from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon before proceeding to Liwasang Bonifacio for the bigger the bigger rally.
Reyes said former vice president Teofisto Guingona, Bishop Oscar Cruz, and other key opposition leaders from Congress would join the protesters in commemorating the event.
He said former president Corazon Aquino might show up in a separate rally in Ayala organized by Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, chairman of the United Opposition.
Casiņo and Reyes assured authorities that the rallies would be peaceful and would not disrupt traffic in major streets in the metropolis.
"In the past, violence only occurred when the police started to disperse the crowd. So the assurance that there will be no violence rests on the police," Casiņo said.
Reyes said the gathering at the Liwasang Bonifacio might extend up to 12:00 midnight but he assured authorities that the activities would be confined to the area. "There will be no marches outside Liwasan."
He raised serious concern though that the administration might use the coup rumors and the recent explosion in Malacaņang to disrupt their celebration.
On Monday noon, a blast near one of the buildings inside the Palace compound raised fears of a coup.
But Palace and security officials quickly downplayed the incident and, quoting results of an investigation, said a lit cigarette thrown at a lacquer thinner inside a garbage can caused the explosion.

pipoy powel...
minsan ang sequel ng movie doesnt meet the expectation as campared to the original, ang pipoy powel ganun din, its quoted that cory lost her charm being the pied pipper to oust gloria, in my opinion, ibalik nalang si marcos, at least with his power he is able to cover the whole philippines, he could even have the guts to create martial law...if we could all turn back time and see the misery that we went through for me it would be better for a marcos to be in position, yup he stole so much, yes, he killed so much, but arent these people on the position now doing any better???
