The questions on Carpio's acquisition of the 800sqm condo are only fair. If the title is already in his name, it should be quite easy to find out when the sale was closed , i.e. was it before his appointment as AJ or after? Also, was that property declared in his SALN?

Even then, you'd have to consider that way before Carpio entered government service, his law practice alone made him a very rich man many times over and he could well afford to buy two of those luxury condos at the Fort. A similar situation was when Justice Florentino Feliciano who, at the time of his appointment to the SC, was a founding partner of the Sycip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan Law Offices.

For me, the only relevant issue here would be if Carpio was declaring or disclosing his income and property properly.
