Basic principle of the Constitution: Separation of the Church and the State.

I believe Manny wants to establish a theocracy if he becomes President. A State run by religious figures.

Sinabi din niya sa interview na yan na our country needs godly leaders, those who have fear of God. Why is he supporting Binay even if it is widely known that Binay is accused of stealing money from the taxpayers? Manny seems to be contradicting himself. He was defending Binay in that interview. If he truly believes that we need godly leaders, he should start distancing himself from UNA. Unless all those he shows to us (being a changed man and a God fearing man and a follower of Christ) is just pakitang-tao and he didn't really changed for the better.

I am an Evangelical Christian myself, and I condemn what Manny did. That is very unChristian-like. Christ taught us to love one another, not to hate each other. I think Manny has to study and understand the essence of the Bible again. Mukhang kulang pa ang understanding niya.

Best comment I've seen so far:"The reason some people blow themselves up. All because of these prehistoric verses that ignorant people believe to be their absolute morality."

Pacquiao posts, deletes Bible verse on gays 'put to death'

Pacquiao's Instagram post gets 18,000 likes before being deleted

MANILA - After his controversial statement on same-*** marriage, followed by an eventual apology, boxing champ and legislator Manny Pacquiao took to Instagram early Thursday morning to say that homo***uals must be "put to death."

Quoting Leviticus 20:13 from the Old Testament, Pacquiao said on his verified Instagram account, "Do not have ***ual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable... If a man has ***ual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

The Instagram post, which showed a photo of the boxer-politician with his wife Jinkee, earned more than 18,000 likes before it was deleted at around 3 a.m. on Thursday.

The post was online for around two hours.

Back in 2012, Pacquiao figured in a similar controversy when he was accused of citing Leviticus and suggesting that homo***uals be “put to death.”

Back then, the boxing champ denied citing the Bible verse, claiming he had not read Leviticus yet.

“Hindi ako nagsabi niyan, kasinungalingan iyan,” said Pacquiao in 2012. “Hindi ko alam iyang verse ng Leviticus kasi hindi pa ako nakabasa ng Leviticus.”

That controversy led to The Grove mall in Los Angeles canceling his appearance in the popular events place.

In the since-deleted post, Pacquiao had some words for those criticizing him because of his Christian evangelist faith.

"Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man,' captioned Pacquiao, citing the Gospel according to Luke. “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets."

    PACQUIAO BACKS DEATH PENALTY

Pacquiao, in an interview Wednesday on DZMM Teleradyo, said he is in favor of the death penalty.

He said the death penalty is "biblical."

Pacquiao, who is running for a Senate seat, asked the audience to read Romans 13:1-7 from the Old Testament to understand his position.

According to the Book of Romans, "Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished."

Pacquiao earlier apologized for saying people in a same-*** marriage are "worse than animals".

    EXCLUSIVE

Did NOT see this one coming!!

Manny Pacquiao's longtime promoter Bob Arum says he AGREES with Nike's decision to fire the boxer -- condemning his anti-gay comments as offensive and completely out of touch.

Arum joined the guys on the "TMZ Sports" show (airs Wednesday at 9 PM PT, 12 ET on FS1) -- and took a stand AGAINST his own client saying, "Manny's remarks were offensive to many people ... Nike acted appropriately."
You gotta watch the entire interview on the show tonight on FS1 -- we asked Arum if he believes Manny is a homophobe and whether or not he'll drop Manny as a client.

Nike has a double win here: able to end a contract with a has-been AND may pogi point for being perceived as a socially responsive company

i came across a tweet from ANC News. apparently the good congressman posted something to the effect of "death to gays", but immediately deleted it -- not fast enough apparently.

These global companies are very sensitive about issues on their endorsers.... As any negative one, will have significant adverse effect on their image and consequently, their financial performance....

I understand that it is stipulated in their contract.....

Regarding the previous comment on popularity of an athlete as the basis, it appears Nike really rides it:

MANILA, Philippines – Nike’s decision to drop Manny Pacquiao as endorser is not the first for the sports apparel giant.

This after Forbes reported that the company did not sign Pacquiao to a fresh contract after their first deal expired in 2012.

Forbes’ Kurt Badenhausen said that Nike wanted to evaluate what the boxer could still bring to the table after losses to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez in that same year – the last one a shocking knockout.

“This is not the first time Nike dropped Pacquiao as an endorser,” wrote Badenhausen. “Nike did not renew their partnership after it expired at the end of 2012. There were calls for Nike to drop Pacquiao in the first half of that year when he made similar comments about same-*** marriages, but Nike waited to see Pacquiao’s performance in the ring. It wasn’t good.

Pacquiao, who is in the middle of controversy after issuing derogatory remarks toward same-*** couples, had been wrongly accused of issuing almost the same comments a few years ago, something he denied.

That’s when Nike and other companies which had Pacquiao as their endorser started distancing themselves from the boxer.

    Sportshub ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch: 1

“He [Pacquiao] lost both his fights, including a devastating knockout at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez in December 2012. Almost all of Pacquiao’s endorsement partners walked away at that point with Pacquiao looking like a shot fighter. Nike walked away too, according to Pacquiao’s camp,” Badenhausen continued.

“Pacquiao returned to the ring in November 2013 and registered two straight wins, which brought Nike back to the table in the second half of 2014. Nike launched a line of hoodies and t-shirts in April 2015 ahead of the [Floyd] Mayweather bout.”

Pacquiao’s controversial statement, wherein he claimed that people in same-*** relations are "worse than animals," turned out to be the last straw for Nike, whose sales of the boxer’s apparel were reportedly affected by the uneventful fight with Mayweather.

“Pacquiao’s camp hoped defeating Mayweather would send sales skyrocketing for the Nike line. Instead, Pacquiao had a listless performance against Mayweather, which he blamed on a shoulder injury. Sales of the Nike Pacquiao line have been limited and royalties were expected to generate less than $1 million this year for Pacman,” Badenhausen added.

Pacquiao has apologized for the remarks, but he maintained his stance on the issue due to his religious belief.

Nike officially parted ways with Pacquiao early Thursday, saying it will no longer have dealings with the Filipino icon.

"We find Manny Pacquiao's comments abhorrent," the company said in a statement. "Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the [lesbians, gays, bi***uals and trans***uals] LGBT community."

The company is no stranger to cutting ties with its big-name athlete endorsers. According to ESPN.com, Nike has dropped former cyclist Lance Armstrong, running back Ray Rice, running back Adrian Peterson and sprinter Oscar Pistorius as endorsers over the past four years.

Pacquiao will return to the ring for the last time against Timothy Bradley on April 9 in Las Vegas (April 10 Manila time).
