Let me quote what I posted in my Facebook timeline when the media blew this out of proportion:

Higher education isn't a right - it's a privilege. If it's in primary and secondary education, I might be soft as you pick up the basic foundations of education but seriously, college? You came from a poor background and still want to go to college? I never knew college was so important as to sacrifice 16 years of your parent's hard work to throw you in there in the first place.

You see, by stating that education is a right, it implies that someone, somebody, is obligated to provide you with the knowledge you require to succeed in life. Who pays for this? UP? The government? Heck no. It's obviously the working public. Sure, there are some anomalies such as corruption and obvious red-tape but you can't eradicate these two. Yes, you can minimize them but wake up -- this is reality and not some utopian world of a kid. There are people out there foregoing their education and working as early as 13 just to support their family. What now? Life's unfair? It always has been.

The irony of it all is our everyday Filipinos scorn the government, pays little taxes by doctoring their income tax statement, and then protests about how the government can't support our higher education sector. Then some mighty idiotic ones cry out that the government can "simply" print more money.

Fortunate for me, I only accept friend requests from people I know. Last thing I want is somebody copy-pasting my discussion and throwing it into the public mob armed with pitchforks.

Tingin ko dito meron pang ibang dahilan.

    Masyadong mababaw para magpakamatay.

Sabi ng nanay responsableng anak daw at gusto maiangat sa buhay ang pamilya nila. Tas dahil lang sa 10k, nagpakamatay.. oh come on..

:naughty2:
