July 16th, 2016 11:37 AM #13Reports are coming out about casualities in and around Ankara. It seems at one point a helicopter opened fire on police and civilians earlier during the night, and may have attacked the parliament building

July 16th, 2016 12:26 PM #15interesting to note that the Turkish Armed Forces, unlike the western model, "do not" really answer to the president. they are sort of watchdogs or guardians of the ideology of Modern Turkey's founder's (Ataturk) vision of secularism. Erdogan has been more and more "islamic" and wants Sharia law implementation, which the majority of the country opposes.
there are also stories that the TAF are the most trusted state institution in Turkey.

July 16th, 2016 03:36 PM #18bad trip isa pa naman yan sa bucket list for my trip sa eastern. Istanbul is the former Constantinople, Byzantine and the Eastern Roman Empire. I'm more inclined to believe that Christianity started there coz of Constantine. sayang, and kaya masira na yan? Syria is so down na. Did you know that Syria is never really Muslim, it's the outpost of the Crusades to the middle east before Jerusalem.

July 16th, 2016 07:12 PM #19Read on twitter: Turkish military helicopter lands in Greece, 8 seek political asylum
While the general consensus is that this coup was amateurish, do consider that the hotel Erdogan was staying at was bombed shortly after he left for Turkey. Tanks and helicopters were also laying siege on the Parliament building. Kung nagkataon, they could have wiped the Turkish political scenery in one night.Last edited by badkuk; July 16th, 2016 at 07:21 PM.
