Let's face it... We are at the bottom of the heap. (Russia/Japan-HK-Philippines according to that article). I am sure that there be a good number of countries on top of the Philippines.

And unless we do something about it, as one nation, then, we will always be looked down by almost everyone else.... This is the sad reality....

^yes, that is the reality. however, there's a thing called responsible journalism and this is definitely not it. if a filipino author were to write something like this drivel, i'd be the first to chastise him/her. it's not about being onion-skinned or quick to the draw, it's about ethics and morals.

oh well, we just have to buckle down and prove to the world that we're above this.

The article was meant to be sarcastic. The opening lines were a dead giveaway. So, it's meant to be taken with a grain of salt.

For me, I'm cool. Bakit ba masyado tayong sensitive sa mga bagay na ganyan, eh totoo naman. We have to wake up to the fact that ang stereotype sa mga Pinay ay DH. And we're not doing anything about it, so the stigma remains. Protesting and shouting at the top of our lungs screaming sacrilege just won't cut it.

We're at the bottom of the food chain and in the pecking order, so we get the crumbs. I'm not saying that we should simply roll over and die, but unless the government can provide decent jobs at home and stop making the sending of domestics abroad a cottage industry, then we will get picked on most of the time.

more reactions from our dear senator:

Senator slams HK writer for 'nation of servants' remark

    03/29/2009 | 10:01 PM

MANILA, Philippines –Sen. Pia S. Cayetano has joined calls to demand a public apology from a top Hong Kong publication and one of its columnists over an opinion article that called the Philippines "a nation of servants."

The opinion piece – "The War At Home" by Chip Tsao – appeared in the March 27 edition of the widely-circulated HK Magazine.

The column depicts the Philippines as a "nation of servants" not worthy of claiming the Spratlys from China, as the latter employs hundreds of thousands of Filipino domestic helpers on very low wages.

"Instead of contributing to intelligent discussions on ways to resolve the Spratlys dispute, Tsao only succeeded in eliciting hatred and sowing more confusion not only among Filipinos but maybe even among his fellow Chinese who are not aware of the intricacies of the issue," Cayetano said.

Cayetano, chair of the Senate Committee on Social Justice, said Filipinos deserved no less than a formal public apology from Tsao and HK Magazine.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Cayetano said:

"Let’s not dignify Tsao’s views by not stooping down to his level. We shouldn’t allow ourselves to be bullied by people with narrow minds like him. HK Magazine and Tsao must apologize for insulting Filipinos, and they should pledge not to commit this mistake again.

"Our being a poor nation does not diminish the validity of our historical and legal claim to the Spratlys. In the proper forum, this dispute will eventually be threshed out and resolved. Ignorance, hatred and racial bias are the last things we need in approaching this long-standing controversy.

"Our claim to the Spratlys is as valid as the other claims being pushed by other nations. It does not mean that we’re disregarding the claims of others. We respect their claim inasmuch as they should acknowledge ours."

Cayetano added that Tsao's Filipino househelper should not worry about the writer's threat to fire her if she would not say in public that the Spratly Islands belong to China.

"I’ll personally appeal on my Filipino and foreigner friends based in Hong Kong to hire her," Cayetano said. "I’m sure there are many more enlightened minds out there willing to take her in. Filipino domestic helpers are very much in demand in Hong Kong precisely because of their efficiency and positive ethic at work." - D'Jay Lazaro, GMANews.TV

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang decried as “reprehensible” an article by a Hong Kong columnist who described the Philippines as a “nation of servants” that has no right to assert its claim over the Spratly Islands.
Press Secretary Cerge Remonde, however, could not immediately say if the government would take action against the Chip Tsao, saying, “We will look into that because we should not be provoked by one columnist.”
“Reprehensible iyang ginawa ng mamamahayag na iyan. Tingnan natin kung ano ang dapat nating gawin diyan [What that writer did was reprehensible. Let’s see what needs to be done],” Remonde told radio station dwIZ.
In his column published on HK Magazine Online last March 27, Tsao protested the Philippines’ assertion of sovereignty on the Spratly Islands, which he said, “belonged to China.”
“As a nation of servants, you don’t flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter,” Tsao said, as he pointed out that 130,000 Filipinas were working on “cheap” wages in Hong Kong as domestic workers.
Tsao said he “summoned” his Filipina maid, Louisa, whom he said has a degree in international politics from the “University of Manila,” and told her that if she wanted a salary adjustment, she should tell her fellow maids that the Spratlys belonged to China.
In October last year, producers of the US television show “Desperate Housewives” and television network ABC apologized for a racial slur against Filipino medical workers in one of its episodes.
Meanwhile, Cebu Representative Antonio Cuenco, chairman of the committee on foreign affairs at the House of Representatives, said on Monday that the Philippines should send a note verbale to Hong Kong to convey its displeasure with the article, notwithstanding its attempt to be satirical.
“We should not let it pass. I will ask Secretary [Alberto] Romulo to send a protest, a note verbale,” Cuenco said in a phone interview.
He added that even if Tsao meant to be satirical, the lawmaker said “it should not be at our expense.”
He also said there was also much about Hong Kong that should be criticized.

At the same time, to be fair, think about it? Ganun na ba kababa tingin ng mga taga Hong Kong sa Pilipinas?

Maybe we can't blame them. Yan ang point of view nila.

Tayo nga di ba..pag nakakita tayo ng Indian National sa Pinas..Bombay or '5-6' comes to mind immediately..but for all we know... Mas progressive na Bansa pa ang India.

Ang mga Pinoy nga naman, sobrang balat sibuyas. Ilang generations na bang kung anu-ano ang tawag ng mga Pinoy sa tao ng ibang bansa? Intsik/tsekwa/intsik-beho, bumbay/5-6, etc.
