then perhaps we should ask for assitance from the UN to feed our hungry kababayans..
i really do think the distribution of wealth in the Philippines is very uneven.
the rich are VERY rich, while the poor can't barely make it alive without stealing or selling their souls..
you can say that again.. but then again once you look outside you will see that we are indeed poor.
women selling their souls, beggars on the streets..
if you haven't been to the countryside you will never know..
--
makes me wonder why politicians can spend hundreds of millions on campaigns yet a lot of people are merely living on 1 dollar per day..
kaya mataas ang krimen, kaya may mga carnaper, kaya may mga komunista , may terorista, may kidnapper, may holdapper, bank robber, dahil may mga mayayaman na sobrang yaman.. at nagpapayaman pa lalo..
this country is all messed up..
Politic is the main reason we're being so poor. All the Politician is not doing there job. And they don't wanna face the truth that Philippine is going down.
Tanong ko lang po: Mahal nyo ba ang Pinas?O mas mahal nyo ang sarili nyo?
![]()
problem is that almost 50% of our countrymen are under famine..which is why we are ranked poorer than ethiopia..
our president just does not want to admit it.. why admit it when politicians are shelling out hundreds of millions for campaign alone?
remember this benchmark that GMA had that if a family of 4 is earning something around 100 pesos per day they are not considered poor.. that is to make the world believe that most people in our country is not poor..
accepting grants and help from the UN is ironic when you see these politicians riding their SUV's and spending so much..![]()
bro, dont know what you are trying to show but may i just ask you, personally, in your own way, what do you think we should do to solve the problem?
mas maganda ata we shift to communism na para there will be equality..
what do you think?
It is the responsibility of all pilipino citizen and those people in the goverment to make this country prosper. Retreat in the face of failure or threatened danger is not always an inappropriate method of coping. As an alternative to agression, it is more effective and usually more acceptable to others.
Like the famous quote:
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. JFK
the best thing that the govt can provide is freedom, what happens next is up to you ...
use it wisely, you improve yourself and perhaps even your self-worth.
use it negatively, then you make your own virtual prison -> "a condition has to be met/satisfied before you lift your finger". parang ni-reverse mo lang freedom mo ...
If it's poor because of corruption, then isn't that the same thing? People are poor.
If you aren't given the opportunity to make enough money to afford an education, which is what you need to get a good job, kasalanan ba yun? There are those who work to educate and uplift the masses... and guess what?
Ever wonder why some of our charity housing projects fail?
When I stayed there, I was hosted at a house in the province. In the town, there were no beggars, no poor people... everyone had a car or a bicycle, and there was work enough for everyone.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
We have spoken of poverty, corruption in the goverment, one of the poorest nation in the world and yet, struggling to remember what is the root cause of all the failure in life.
Look around you, ask yourselves, are you a productive citizen, have you done enought to make this country proud in the eyes of others?
Why is it that when worse came up almost instantly point the finger to the goverment. Some said, they are corrupt official. Well, who put those official in the goverment anyway? Isnt it that you corrupted yourself too? If you vote for that person then you are responsible.
i think you guys misunderstood the article refered to.
1.) the title reads "Population below poverty line by country".
2.) it also says "Definitions of poverty vary considerably among nations. For example, rich nations generally employ more generous standards of poverty than poor nations."
it does not mean that because the Philippines has a lower rank than Ethiopia, that it is poorer than Ethiopia. it only means that a greater PERCENTAGE of people in the Philippines are below the poverty line as defined by the Philippine government than there are in Ethiopia as defined by the Ethiopian government. it does not speak of per capita income of the people it considers as poor.
focus also on the second quote above. the definition of poverty in Ethiopia may be that people are not able to eat once a day (most people in africa only eat once a day, that is normal to them). in the philippines poverty may be defined as "not being able to eat 3 square meals a day". big big difference there guys. a family that eats one meal per day over there is rich, a filipino family that can afford to eat only 2 meals in one day is poor in the philippines.
the survey is misleading since the subject it was trying to define, percentage of people below poverty line, did not have a common constant. the definition of poverty varies with each country, and thus the ranking is invalid.

Tumpak! Let's take a look at the bottom of that list:
#106 Spain: 19.8 %
#107 Vietnam: 19.5 %
#108 Bermuda: 19 %
#109 Morocco: 19 %
#110 Kazakhstan: 19 %
#111 Chile: 18.2 %
#112 Costa Rica: 18 %
#113 Russia: 17.8 %
#114 Indonesia: 17.8 %
#115 United Kingdom: 17 %
#116 Poland: 17 %
#117 Canada: 15.9 %
#118 Korea, South: 15 %
#119 Jamaica: 14.8 %
#120 Bulgaria: 14.1 %
#121 Slovenia: 12.9 %
#122 United States: 12 %
#123 Syria: 11.9 %
#124 Germany: 11 %
#125 Croatia: 11 %
#126 Netherlands: 10.5 %
#127 Ireland: 10 %
#128 China: 10 %
#129 Mauritius: 10 %
#130 Thailand: 10 %
#131 Bahamas, The: 9.3 %
#132 Hungary: 8.6 %
#133 Tunisia: 7.4 %
#134 Libya: 7.4 %
#135 France: 6.2 %
#136 Austria: 5.9 %
#137 Malaysia: 5.1 %
#138 Estonia: 5 %
#139 Lithuania: 4 %
#140 Belgium: 4 %
#141 Taiwan: 0.9 %
So, on that basis, Thailand (#130) is richer than Spain (#106), UK (#115), Canada (#117), US (#122), Germany (#124) and the Netherlands (#126). Indonesia (#114) only one position "poorer" than UK? While the top of the list is dominated by African countries, as a whole it's quite questionable.
DEFINITION: National estimates of the percentage of the population lying below the poverty line are based on surveys of sub-groups, with the results weighted by the number of people in each group. Definitions of poverty vary considerably among nations. For example, rich nations generally employ more generous standards of poverty than poor nations.
