    Makati eyes becoming PH's first 'Wi-Fi city'


    Hooray for free wifi?

    Well, Makati City is on its way to being the Philippines' first "Wi-Fi City." Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay has turned Makati's city hall into a free Wi-Fi zone, the first step in providing free wireless Internet to the city's 33 barangays.

    "We are laying the foundation for transforming Makati into the country’s first wireless city. We recognize that embracing modern technology is the fastest way to achieve inclusive progress and equitable growth in this age of globalization," Binay said on the city's website.

    The project is in partnership with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, Binay said.

    Twitter users will also have a new source for traffic information as the city officially launches its Makati Traffic (*MakatiTraffic) Twitter account, which promises 24-hour traffic updates for commuters and motorists. "The project aims to provide fast and efficient delivery of updates on road conditions or incidents, real-time traffic information and advisories particularly on major streets in the city," the Makati City website said.

    The Twitter account has 6,479 followers as of this post and tweets hourly traffic updates.

    wifi in every bldg and office is just plain redundant and not too mention much expensive, with too many PLDT lines and routers.

    akala ko naman WiMax-enabled na ang Makati. as always media hype
