Just put yourselves in their position. You're middle-aged, too young to retire and too old to start anew. Kahit siguro sino, ipaglalaban ang karapatan nila.

It's easy for most to just say na mag-strike sila para magsara or matanggal. Perhaps because you're leading comfortable lives courtesy of your parents but these fellows are just workers. They need a job to feed a family, send their children to school, pay bills, and the most gruesome: debt with interest.

If you're in your mid-40s, and you have no one to count on, much less ask money from, I'd bet you'll feel frustration and get desperate too after giving your youth to a company that's now giving you the boot when you're unemployable.
sa issue with PALEA.. i think ibang group ang pilots... PALEA are mostly ground crew, call center, catering operations <?> .. all land based.. ibang group din ata yung mga flight attendants...

mabigat naman talaga sa loob yung ganun eh.. giving your life for so many years to a company.. tapos middle age ka na tsaka ka bibitawan... kaya nga may severance package na eh... at di biro ang package na makukuha nila... nasa kanila na lang kung iwawaldas nila ....

on another note.. sa laki ng benefits / salaries nila habang nag work sila until middle age... did they think na habang buhay yun? kung nawaldas na nila yun.. well.. tough luck...

even a communist state wouldn't let the state suffer bankruptcy para lang ma subsidize lahat ng needs ng citizens nito.. what more in a capitalist economy?

That is why you have to save save and save, and study study and study, so that you have backups when these things happen. They knew it was coming when they got employed,- so they should have at least prepared for such eventuality.

The Daily Tribune - Without Fear or Favor

Ramp controllers at NAIA in exodus; traveling public need not worry — official
    By Conrado Ching
    06/02/2011

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is experiencing a “brain drain” phenomenon after a number of ramp controllers (RCs) resigned for high paying jobs abroad.

Airport general manager Jose Angel Honrado said eight airport ramp controllers resigned last week, leaving the country’s premier airport with only 31 ramp controllers.

A ramp controller is a highly skilled and technical position who is in charge of directing aircraft movement after landing into the parking bays and vice versa. The position requires a license from the Civil Aviation Training Center which is under the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The airport, however, assured the traveling public that their safety will not be compromised despite the exodus of ramp controllers, saying there are still enough ramp controllers that man the three airport terminals.

Ramp controllers were hired as contractual with a monthly wage of P13,000. The growing air industry around the world triggered a big demand for licensed air traffic controllers that offers big pay.

The current requirement for an airport terminal is 11 for a 4-4-3 shifts. At present, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 has nine RCs; Terminal 2, eight RCs; Terminal 3, five RCs, and the Manila Domestic Airport, nine RCs.

Honrado said ramp controllers used to be under the control of the CAAP but was only placed under the control of the MIAA following the threat of work stoppage by the country’s Air Traffic Controllers back in the 1990s.

Acknowledging the problem with the current pay scale, Honrado said they signed a new memorandum to increase the workers’ pay from P13,000 to P15,000 per month.

According to Honrado, the increase is just temporary as the MIAA Board is in the final stages of rationalizing technical positions at the MIAA for approval by the Department of Budget Management (DBM).

He explained the rationalization includes three new positions at the Terminal Operations Center that include a ramp control supervisor, shift-in-charge and ramp controller having government salary grades 19, 18 and 15, respectively.

Once approved, the new salary grades will be comparable to wages of air traffic controllers at the CAAP who earns a basic salary of P28,000 every month.

Honrado said he gave specific instructions to MIAA assistant general manager for finance and administration Herminia Castillio to expedite the rationalization and processing of the new technical positions so they can forward it to the DBM for approval.

BIG BUSINESS WINS! PALEA big fat zero...

Embattled Philippine Airlines workers given 1-month ultimatum | Sun.Star

    Thursday, August 25, 2011

MANILA -- Beleaguered employees of Philippine Airlines (PAL) will only have until September 30 to stay on their posts, a company official said Thursday.

Separation letters were already sent to the 2,600 workers from the airline’s catering, airport services and call center reservation units as part of the Malacaņang-backed outsourcing plan, PAL president and chief operating officer Jaime Bautista said.

Those who signified intention to join the service providers after the prescribed September 9 deadline will start official duty the next day, October 1.

Under the spinoff plan, Sky Kitchen will take over the catering department of PAL while Skylogistics will capture the 70-year-old airline's ground and passenger handling.

SPi Global, managed by telecommunications mogul Manny Pangilinan, will handle the call center reservations department.

Bautista said the airline also sent notices to the regional offices of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Manila and Cebu as the PAL Employees Association (Palea) promised to challenge the massive layoff program on Friday before the Court of Appeals.

“The spin off/outsourcing is a painful but necessary decision to ensure PAL’s viability and long term survival. We assure affected workers that they will all receive their separation pay and other benefits,” Bautista told reporters.

PAL will spend about P2.5 billion for the severance package which includes separation and gratuity pay, trip pass benefits, and one-year extension of medical and hospitalization benefits, among others.

The Lucio Tan-led airline had said that the company’s P15-billion losses in 2008 and 2009 necessitated the restructure program, which includes cutting down on manpower costs. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)

The Reality is, 80% of Philippine businesses are owned by the Chinese.

Think about it, Banks, Airlines, Fastfood, Factories etc.

The Chinese aren't that great businessmen, though. They fail at marketing. Their only business strategy is to be conservative (they don't have a choice, anyway. Being in a 3rd world $hithole their businesses could go under anytime.) But compared to Pinoys na mga utak-katulong, magaling talaga silang negosyante.

This quiet guy started with nothing. Peddled shoes while studying. Transformed a tiny store in Quiapo into the Philippines largest conglomerate with 4 major Banks, 40 large Malls, and the biggest real estate holdings in the country. He is recognized by Forbes and Fortune as one of the Richest people on Earth.

If that not Great, I do not know what is.

+1, I strongly agree! Dami dyan katulong ang treatment sa mga tindera para 2,000 salary lang kasi daw stay-in. Talk about circumventing the labor law.

    OK. The Sy Way

    1. All employees must be in a contractual status.
    2. All employees must receive minimum salary.
    3. Get all the supplies needed then pay them next year.
    4. Pirate competitors excellent employees. Blind them with huge salary. Provide them herculean job loads. Work them to death. Then release them.
    5. All cash must circulate inside our company. Let us become our own supplier, worker and user. I do not like the idea of other people earning money from us.

All of those methods are good for profit except this:

"5. All cash must circulate inside our company. Let us become our own supplier, worker and user. I do not like the idea of other people earning money from us. "

Being your own supplier sucks. Because you take a loss if the main business can't pay. (From experience), in other words, the main business benefits while the sub-business supply unit suffers. Plus the damn overhead. What they actually do for BONUS is to subcontract outside suppliers to produce the items for them as part of their contract for supplying the supermarket system.

The SM way: pay the suppliers late... earn interest off the money before you spend it. If a supplier doesn't like your system or fees... to heck with them... go get another one... same thing with the BONUS branded items... which makes it even easier... the buyers never need to know that they're buying from a different supplier...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Easy money pa rin sa kanila master niky.

Remember the Sy Rule # 3. Get all the supplies needed then pay them next year.
