I grew up in the Duterte years (late 80s to 90s) where he started his career as a prosecutor then becoming a city OIC and moving on to be elected. He did help change things in Davao City and the people loved him for his work.

You can’t blame people for voting him into office. The same thing how people in San Juan spent a long time with the Ejercitos/Estradas.

Sadly, his presidency didn’t go as well as it should be like others before him. He could have stood as the instigator for change but he just became another leader in a corrupt and disfunctional political system.
