Would you prefer our country being led by Ferdinand Marcos over Noynoy? -- or over the people who led the country after Marcos' reign.

It has been said that Marcos had lots of good plans for our country, and it was the people who surrounded him that made him look bad and led him to his own downfall.

Marcos was also considered as a visionary.

    Your thoughts?

Diba nga during Marcos' reign mataas pa tingin sa country natin.

Ngayon? Hahahahaha. It's more fun in the Philippines, indeed!

    Remember Martial Law?

Yung ambush 'kuno' story ni JP "What is happening to our country Mr President?" Enrile that convinced Macoy to declare it.

    Lavish shopping ni Imeldific.

    Marcos reign of 20+ years.

    etc.

I don't think so.

Hmmm. Oo. Si Imelda kasi talaga gusto umangat, maging sikat and all that kaya marami din siya agenda that probably led to Marcos' downfall.

I was too young to remember anything during his reign, but if it's as bad as what I've read...then I like what I have right now. I can basically do whatever I want....I love my freedom too much...

Violent leftist demonstrations was another reason he declared Martial Law. Student radicals even threw a cardboard crocodile at Marcos.

The irony was our country was relatively prosperous back then, and yet they were protesting.

No newspaper, radio or tv station would dare say anything negative about Marcos. Kaya puro good news lang noon about the Marcoses.

Wala ni isa sa kanilang dalawa.

Isang matalinong magnanakaw at isang tangang ninanakawan.

    May pipiliin ka ba dun?

Panahon ni Marcos nag crash yung economy ng Pilipinas, we had to run to the IMF yung early eighties. Remember the time the only car that can be bought was the Lancer Box-Type? The exchange rate bumagsak. Also travel was very restricted. The NPA and MNLF were nearly licked that time he was booted out... Can't compare Marcos' 21 years rule to Pnoy's 2 years...

Yep. Zero to negative ang foreign investment at that time kaya.

Baka nakinabang? :D

Intersting topic as this was a discussion i had with some people over lunch today. The main point of all old enough to remember and experience Martial Law was a sad "how easy Filipinos forget". And this forgetfulness is getting worse judging by the fact that Erap was almost elected president once more. :thwack:

Marcos was an intelligent person no doubt, had the makings of a great leader and would OWN Noynoy in intellect and oration but alas, what he did to the structures of this country forever changed things. He overempowered the military, took control of wealth and industry for a limited few, and killed the two party political system while he was at it. Debt, increased insurgency and exit of industries followed that all.

I'm too young to know that firsthand but I'm from a family with relatives who were opposing Martial Law from day one, who were blackmailed by the Marcoses, went underground, and with very close family friends who were killed.

The Philippines was second to Japan in the time BEFORE Martial Law.

Try thinking about possibilities of outcomes: if Marcos did good and was not booted out there would be no people power and Cory Aquino presidency and thus, no sentiment when Cory passed on and thus, possibly no Noynoy presidency.
