Agree with that. For now the PNP is under the leash especially with Bato on board. Ang AFP na lang ang medyo 50-50 with Digong. So far they seem to have the temerity to contradict Digong on a few things like belie his statement on the US stockpiling arms in-country, using the FA-50s as bombers (contradicting his statement on them being useful only for show) and recently "non-support" of Martial Law feelers. Loyalty seems suspect enough that AFP troops were ordered to stay in the barracks during the November protests against the Marcos burial at LnB. I think Digong's pull-out from the NDF-GRP peace talks is part of his appeasement of the AFP, as his continuous promises of salary increases.

Mukhang ma-acquit pa si Janet Napoles SolGen Calida moves to acquit Napoles in illegal detention of Luy | Inquirer News
^ money talks. Convict walks.
to be or not to be, that always confuses me!
ayan na! ahahha trillianes vs bank accounts of Du30 hahahah come clean!
what i read in the papers is that solgen calida filed a mere manifestation, not a rejoinder or a motion or a reply. a lawyer who is worth his salt, and this may not be apparent to laymen, knows that a manifestation is nothing but an expression of one's sentiment or opinion. it doesn't pray for any relief or move something to be done or undone. so, if i were the judge to whom the manifestation is addressed, i would just say: "for whatever it is worth, your manifestation is duly noted."
^ how about the supposed impending release of one of the ampatuan suspects in the maguindamao massacre? What gives there?
to be or not to be, that always confuses me!
as early as march 2015, Judge jocelyn solis-reyes of quezon city rtc branch 221 granted the bail petition filed by sajid ampatuan because, according to the judge, the latter's "mere presence in the meetings where the massacre was supposedly plotted is not strong evidence of guilt to deny the motion of the accused for bail. Solis-Reyes added that evidence show Ampatuan did not speak during these meetings."
sajid ampatuan was released after posting surety bond amounting to Php11.6M.
in 2015, the release of sajid ampatuan caused so much furor that the panel of prosecutors who handled the cases prayed for reconsideration of the judge' order. however, it was denied; thus, the panel went all the way up to the court of appeals to question the order.
just recently, the court of appeals 6th division upheld judge solis-reyes. the court of appeals said: judge solis-reyes "did not act in a whimsical, arbitrary, and capricious manner when she granted private respondent's motion for bail."
quite interestingly, the person who was at the helm of the department of justice at the time the prosecution failed to prove that the evidence of guilt of sajid ampatuan was strong went by the name of leila de lima. the same leila de lima who is recently indicted by the same department she held once for drug charges. the same leila de lima who defied a supreme court decision. the same leila de lima who cautioned prosecutors not to receive allowances from local government units where they are stationed for this might endanger their independence and the same leila de lima who was alleged to have received millions from the drug lords in the national bilibid prison.
We never learn. Imelda Marcos defied the odds, laughing at Philippine justice system back in the 90's thanks to the SolGen back then. Janet Lim Napoles may yet have the last laugh thanks to SolGen Calida and whoever's behind his shenanigans, employing the same tactic, reading from the same playbook. People who think this time it will be different, may be sorely disappointed. Our Justice System truly sucks.

n 1996, the Supreme Court found Mrs. Marcos “guilty beyond reasonable doubt” for signing the contract. It sentenced her to 12 years in jail, and fined her the equivalent amount of the anomalous contract. The Court acquitted Dans since it found “no conspiracy” between him and Mrs. Marcos.
Despite the verdict. Mrs. Marcos still did not go to jail. Instead, she again appealed through her lawyer,
Estelito Mendoza (the Solicitor General during the Marcos dictatorship).
On January 29, 1998, the Supreme Court upheld her conviction. it even denied a second appeal from her. But still, she did not go to jail. Instead, she had filed as a candidate to run for the presidency in the May 1998 elections.
Suddenly, out of the blue, President Fidel Ramos’ newly appointed Solicitor General, Romeo do la Cruz, intervened in her case and told the Supreme Court to reverse Imelda Marcos’ conviction, citing lack of evidence.
On October 6, 1998, the Supreme Court used De la Cruz’s stunning request for acquittal as one of the grounds for acquitting Mrs. Marcos by a vote of eight in favor, five against, and one abstention.

VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Duterte flip-flops on family’s wealth - Vera FilesResponding to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV's allegations that he had P2 billion in bank deposits over a period of nine years until 2015, President Rodrigo Duterte is now tweaking his narrative from being born to a poor family and growing up “in the slums” and is now saying his family was and is not poor.
In a recorded video released by the Presidential Communications Operations Office and RTVMalacanang Thursday, Duterte said they are not poor and reminded Trillanes that his father, Vicente Duterte, was a governor of Davao.
to say that our justice system sucks is to mistake the trees for the forest. it's the people behind the system who are weak. it's not the car, it's the driver. it's the indian, not the arrow.
