From Solita (Winnie) Monsod's column, describing the convicts paraded in Congress as resource persons

What goes on in Bilibid | Inquirer Opinion

But the most interesting insight I got from Gang, given her nine years of experience in Bilibid, was her take on the drug convicts that have been paraded in the House of Representatives.

Did she think they were for real?

The simple answer is NO. These people are narcissists—and to offer them national media attention is like offering them heaven. They will do anything, say anything, for the attention they get. Given that the reward to them is immunity, and whatever else is being offered, as the saying goes, “All this, and heaven, too.”

To change the rifles from what is already widely used is a no brainer. Its more costly to change the very basic gear like a rifle, not withstanding the resulting atrophy such a move would cause

The israelis developed the galil as a copy of the ak47 due to reliabile attribute of the latter. They use it (galil) for some specialized units but not the regular infantry which are issued m16 at the behest of the US govt. Galil was designed to be compatible to widely used ammo in their arsenal

A credible external defense require far more sophisticated equipment like the ones i mentioned (air defence, diesel submarines and anti ship missiles). Things currently not part of the arsenal of AFP

Oo nga pala, remember Martin Dino? The VACC chairman who ran for President under PDP-Laban, and then substituted Duterte at the last minute?

PDP-Laban’s prexy bet withdraws candidacy, names Duterte as substitute

Well Martin Dino is also now part of the government. He is now the new SBMA Chairman. Happy Family Dynasty in Government

Pero hindi ba siya dapat kasama sa 2 year ban, considering, he "ran"?

Well, onli the best and the brightest for MYPRESident.

    Change scamming indeed.

    Best and the brightest. Indeed.

'twas only a matter of time before this guy got his reward.

And the equity outflows coupled with US fed thoughts continue to bash the Peso it seems. A related thought i had was what did we get from his foreign trip a few weeks back? Before, when a president goes on a foreign trip, the return is promise of additional investments and renewes ties (whether realized or not), not affected ties due to "misunderstanding and miscommunication" that results in uncertainty from other sectors.

For someone who has a 91% trust rating from the people, it sure is incredibly ironic that there are "oust" plots and assassination plots left and right, in less than 100 days in office.

Extremely paranoid (takot sa sariling multo)? Or just laying the predicate in peoples' minds to justify doing something more? Or maybe something more benign -- just to have that teleserye effect, to keep people entertained (galing ng script-writer nila)? Abangan ang susunod na kabanata

Hindi pa naman ito final, will need to pass Congress pa:

Inquirer: Sweetened beverages face P10/liter tax -- Uniform levy to cover soda, energy drinks, tea, coffee

So how does it work...for 1 liter Coke, me 10 peso tax, but for smaller bottles wala? Or 5 pesos for 500ml and so forth? Baka ang mangyari niyan, they sell unsweetened C2, etc. then haluan na lang ng asukal ng mamimili.

Sana i-exclude yung households sa 5-peso/kilo tax, tutal for personal consumption naman yan not profit...and isn't sugar considered a basic need?

Come to think of it...5 peso tax for one kilo of sugar, but 10 pesos for sweetened drinks?

Just how do you classify sweetened drinks for that matter -- by percentage of composition? Yung C2 green, it's sweet but it's not that sweet...yung C2 Lemon, Apple, etc., yan yung super tamis. Wouldn't it be easier to just tax the sugar used, not the multitude of sweetened drinks?

They may also consider excluding coco sugar...no idea how much it costs, but it's supposed to be healthy, and who knows it may end boosting our coco industry.

Coco sugar is more expensive than regular sugar but it's healthy nga.

Not aware of the facts but would diabetes and obesity still be there, as it's more of a lifestyle and genetic matter (just my own thought)? That aside though, what I want to understand is where will they use the additional taxes for as well so we know the benefits of the proposal and not just the impact on cost. Develop agriculture? Kasi Kung sa drug war, I prefer having my cheap iced tea. the

yes, its a lifestyle problm, genetics plays a part but ill cite myself as an example, my late father and all his siblings are diabetic, on my mother side, 7 sila, sya lang wala...buti din ako wala, problem if they increase tax on sugar, di ba maaapektohan and bread? i notice that its what common filipinos eat when they are hungry..

As I already mentioned we already make 5.56mm bullets locally. We do not make 7.62mm AK bullets.

The reason the Israelis made the Galil is to take advantage of the huge amounts of AK bullets they captured and continue to capture during their wars against the Arabs. They also captured large numbers of Russian-made tanks and heavy weapons with ammo.

Hindi ako agree na itax beverage with natural ingredients. Real sugar is not really bad.

Ang masama artificial sugar and High Fructose Corn Syrup.

talk to the diabetics, po. they're 1/8 of the population.
we're taxing to raise funds. if the proposed taxed item is "unhealthy", consider it a bonus.
what's in them soft drinks? it's in the etiketa, po.
i like the taste of local coca cola, as it is. drink it ice cold.

Doc yung bottled softdrinks nasa tansan nakasulat ingredients.
