The USA did not mothball its F14s. They were all ground up to the last bolt so Iran would not have any part to use.

    Mothballed or retired?

F14 TOMCATS were retired and replaced by F18 hornets for the US navy

    from what i understand,
the usa may have retired their f-14s, but the latter did not retire to the retirement home, i.e., mothball center.
to prevent iran from getting spare parts from these retired planes to maintain iranian f-14s, the usa had them destroyed to very small pieces.
usa didn't want to have them or their allies, going up against iranian f-14s.

    similarly,
some folks feel china won't provide us their planes, so's they won't have to fight these planes in the future.

^I thought the US navy retire plane models so they could replace it with something better that can destroy all lesser capable planes including the one they replace it with

That way they dont have to worry about their enemies acquiring spare parts for all the planes they have exported as they can simply blow it up in the sky with the more advanced planes they got

    you are correct, po.

the word "spite" was used by some writers, to explain why the usa destroyed the retired f-14s.
they say that the us didn't have to do it, for the reasons you mentioned above, but they did it, anyway.

    Basically out of spite.

This is what happened to all the old US F-14 Tomcats - We Are The Mighty

There are a lot of Tomcats on display in museums and as gate guardians. But those are just empty shells.

Buti nga sa kanila. I don't know how those guys who sell our own soil to the enemy can sleep at night. Sabagay kung yung tao nga sa taas mahimbing ang tulog sa kulambo, paano pa kaya sila.

Statement from the PRC Embassy Annex aka Malacanan

On Hague ruling anniversary, Palace claims fishermen lying about China aggression

President Rodrigo Duterte's spokesman said Filipino fishermen are lying when they say Chinese boats are hindering them from fishing in some parts of the West Philippine Sea, a body of water which lies within the country's exclusive economic zone.
