China executes Filipina drug mule | Inquirer Global Nation

The Filipina sentenced to death for drug trafficking in China has been executed, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed Wednesday.

The death sentence was carried out despite an appeal from Philippine president Benigno Aquino III to have her sentence commuted to life imprisonment.

She, along with her cousin, was arrested at the Hangzhou international airport in January 2011 for trying to bring into the country six kilograms of heroin. Her cousin was likewise sentenced to death but was given a two-year reprieve for good behavior.

Hernandez stated previously that Chinese authorities have evidence which indicate the Filipina had smuggled illegal drugs at least 18 times into the country.
tsk tsk... may she rest in peace.

dapat sa Pinas ineexecute din yung mga taga-China na nahulihan ng drugs.

may she RIP. she really paid for it, nakakaawa lang kasi at di mo masisi sa hirap ng buhay.

i hope ma-discouraged yung iba na gumaya o maengganyo ng "easy money", or else they will suffer the same fate...

She definitely deserved her faith...she pushed her luck too far, at the expense of the lives that were ruined from drugs.

The Filipino woman, who entered China from Dubai through a connecting flight in Hong Kong was apprehended at the Hangzhou International Airport on Jan. 25, 2011 after authorities found 6.198 kilos in her luggage. She was arrested with a male Filipino companion — a cousin — who was caught carrying 6.171 kilos of heroin.

The Filipino’s cousin was also handed a death sentence but with a two-year reprieve, meaning it could be downgraded to life imprisonment if he shows good behavior while in detention.

    $4,000 Per Trip

DFA Secretary Albert del Rosario in a chance interview said that arrangements are now being made to have the Filipina’s relatives flown to China.

Apparently, the relatives were not aware of the Filipina’s frequent trips to China and the purpose of her travels there.

“She has been doing this for several times and the court mentioned that she has been doing this for 18 times since 2008. She has been going back and forth from Dubai, Hong Kong, and China,” Hernandez told reporters.

Hernandez said the woman goes to China as a tourist and in 2007 was recruited and offered $1,000 to do a job. “Per trip she was being awarded about $3,000 to $4,000,” he said, citing case details. (With reports from JC Bello Ruiz and Genalyn D. Kabiling)
