Here's my adopted countries corruption endictment last year;
177 - Federal Officials (California's Duke Cunningham is the most popular one)
158 - State Officials (Illinois and Ohio governor is tie for first)
360 - Local Official
365 - Police Officers

Abramoff case is not over yet, and we know that a lot politician (including DeLay) is shaking and thinking how they're going to explain that to their constitutes.

So, not to worry my fellow kabayan, Pilipinas is not alone in corruption.

Asian nations among world's most corrupt

The world's most impoverished countries, including Bangladesh, had the highest levels of perceived corruption

Bangladesh and Indonesia are ranked among the world's most corrupt countries, according to an annual survey by German-based Transparency International.

In the Asia Pacific region, New Zealand and Singapore were amongst the least corrupt countries while Australia, Hong Kong and Japan also had low levels of perceived corruption.

At the other end of the scale, Bangladesh and Indonesia were joined by Vietnam, Pakistan, the Philippines and India as being considered highly corrupt.

Covering 102 nations, the Corruption Perceptions Index claims to "reflect perceived levels of corruption among politicians and public officials."

It is based on 15 surveys from nine institutions and includes the perceptions of country analysts and the business community both resident and expatriate.

yup, worthy to mention also China and South Korea are also corrupt, specifically sa customs offices nila (hehe, anyone in the supply chain/logistics field knows this!)

The main difference is, DESPITE CORRUPTION, THESE COUNTRIES PROGESS.

Sa Pinas, for example may project kang sesementuhing kalsada. Hihingi sa yo ng ten percent. You agree.

The following day, eto na linya "ay sir, nalaman po ni ano e, kailangan nating bigyan din yun." So dagdag ka.

Tapos the next time you meet, sa sabihin sa yo "naku sir, hindi pa po pala nasama yung processing ng ano, e kay ano po yun...sir kailangan din nating bigyan yun." And it goes on, until wala ka nang pera para sa kontrata, wala nang project...

are you kidding? the US media are like sharks...just the mere hint of blood and it's a feeding frenzy. but it's not always a bad thing, kasi sila lang ang kinatatakutan ng mga abusadong politico.

i also believe that the levels of corruption in the US are much higher than the reported numbers...but it's more because the corrupt politicians hide it better - walang garapalan.

look at that US news, very concise. enumerated yun number of officials na corrupt, ala statistics. eh d2 sa P'nas isang tao lang na-news na corrupt like for example Garcia of AFP, it's like the end of the world na! coup de etat, anarchy and of course with matching marching of militants kagad. initiator kagad ang media coz after the reported corruption of a public official, the next report will be about disgruntled soldiers etc. they're putting words in people's mouths ika nga ... in this country, the media is the instigator. and I thought we have laws to jail instigators.

What we need in our country is a copy of US Government Accounting Office which oversees how the government conduct business, and Law Enforcement Internal Affairs which police the law enforcement personnel making sure that cops is not abusing their authority.

Equally corrupt din kasi media dito, kaya walang credibility masyado. What we need is a stronger whistleblower legislation. The law on tax informant was even made less attractive with more limitations.
