Pork has very little muscle building material and contains excess of fat. This fat gets deposited in the vessels and can cause hypertension and heart attack. It is not surprising that over 50% of Americans suffer from hypertension
re muscle building material: if we're talking about protein, imho it depends on the cut of the meat, be it pork or beef. It can vary from 6 to 28 grams afaik. i don't think one has a clear advantage over the other.

If we're talking strictly about protein content:

-- seafood has about the same amount of protein vs beef or pork, but protein quality is superior(w/o the fat btw).
    -- Insects are 21 - 80% protein
-- then there's tofu, which isn't even meat.

Re fat content: doesn't it depend on the cut of the meat, e.g. sirloin vs bacon?

Compare a lump of pork fat and beef fat; beef fat looks and feels a lot more solid. Not a nutritionist/dietician but i'd rather not have the latter in my system.

In any case, to each his own ^_^

The pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth. It lives and thrives on muck, faeces and dirt. It is the best scavenger that I know that God has produced. In the villages they dont have modern toilets and the villagers excrete in the open air. Very often excreta is cleared by pigs.

Some may argue that in advanced countries like Australia, china pigs are bred in very clean and hygienic conditions. Even in these hygienic conditions the pigs are kept together in sties. No matter how hard you try to keep them clean they are filthy by nature. They eat and enjoy their own as well as their neighbours excreta.

Consumer Reports magazine has stirred debate about pathogens in pork by reporting a small study in which Yersinia enterocolitica was found in 69% of samples, while more common foodborne pathogens like Salmonella and Listeria were much less prevalent.

Y enterocolitica causes an intestinal illness that manifests as fever, abdominal pain, and often-bloody diarrhea, mainly in children. The illness usually goes away by itself, but it sometimes requires antibiotic treatment, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Consumer Reports, published by the nonprofit group Consumers Union, tested 198 raw pork samples, including 148 pork chops and 50 ground pork, from a number of grocery chains.

Besides finding Y enterocolitica in 69% of the samples, the investigators detected Salmonella in 4%, Staphylococcus aureus in 7%, and Listeria monocytogenes in 3%, according to the report. Also, 11% of the samples had Enterococcus species, a potential indicator of fecal contamination.

Contamination was more common in ground pork than in pork chops, the magazine said.

    Someone told me

His real premise is that the long term effect of a poor diet is bad health and high blood pressure, correct?

Try actually following the CDC (Center for Disease Control) stats long term.

What is happening as people keep to their unhealthy diets over the course of years and decades, something sensible, lifelong daily religious practice should theoretically correct?

Looks an awful lot like the 50% claimed in his original post, doesn't it?

In fact, as the ages go up, those numbers start to trend closer to 2/3rds or even 3/4ths of the population.

50% actually starts to look conservative once you get high enough ...

and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah.”
    [Al-Qur’an 5:3]
The above verses of the Holy Qur’an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why
    pork is forbidden.
    2. Pork prohibited in the Bible
The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible
prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus
“And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth
not the cud; he is unclean to you”.
“Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch,
they are unclean to you.” [Leviticus 11:7-8]
Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy
“And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud,
    it is unclean unto you.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRVJSQnejyE]Why is the eating of pork forbidden in Islam? Dr. Zakir Naik (Urdu) - YouTube[/ame]
    1. Pork does not contain an enormous amount of fat, even the so-called “lean pork” in contrast to other types of meat such as beef, lamb, etc. Pork contains much intra-cellular fat or particles of fat inside the cells themselves, while in other animals, the fat is found almost exclusively outside these cells in the connective tissues, in the form of fat cells. Occasionally in aged beef, it is possible to find small amounts of fat in the cells themselves, while in pork, the cells have generally a high percentage of fatty particles. This can, for example be seen when even “lean pork” is fried. It immediately releases fat in a hot frying pan and is usually fried “in its own fat”. Since fat contains about twice as many calories as carbohydrates and proteins, it is, especially among heavy eaters, first of all stored for convenience in the connective tissue. As a result, the adiposity common to those who consume pork, including the other stress substances found in pork, i.e. mucous constituents, can only be broken down with difficulty. This corresponds in part to the “protein fattening” referred to by Wendt.

    2. Fat is always associated with cholesterol. Cholesterol is responsible for the formation of the large cholesterol-loaded molecules in the blood which contributes to high-blood pressure and arteriosclerosis, as well as being supplementary factors in cardiac infractions arid disorders of the coronary circulation, and in the peripheral blood vessels, especially in combination with nicotine (smokers). Cholesterol is also found in the walls of cancer cells (Roffo).

Again, this thread is nothing but religious propaganda poorly disguised as health advice
