"Aquino ally calls for boycott of China-made products
    By Gil C. Cabacungan Jr.
    Philippine Daily Inquirer
    1:24 pm | Sunday, June 12th, 2011

MANIILA, Philippines – Albay Governor Joey Salceda, a political ally of President Aquino, urged Filipinos on Sunday to band together and boycott China-made products in retaliation to Beijing ’s “bullying’’ in the country’s territory.

“Let us boycott ‘Made in China’ products, buy Filpino. Let us hurt them where it counts. We also protect our children and communities from the pervasive and persistent risks of various types of contamination and poor quality of their products,’’ said Salceda in a speech during an Independence Day ceremony at the Albay provincial hall.

Salceda said retaliation through trade against China’s repeated intrusions in Spratlys Islands and the West Palawan Sea has become the only viable alternative to ordinary Fiilpinos since military provocation was not an option.

The governor said the country could not depend on other countries in fighting off “not only threats to our national sovereign territory” but also actions that bring “shame to our dignity as a race and as a nation.’’

The Philippines posted a $900-million trade deficit with China in 2010, said Salceda. The country imported $7 billion worth of goods from China while shipping a little over $6 billion goods to China, but Salceda reckoned this was actually bigger as he estimated that another $3 billion worth of goods were being smuggled from China and were sold in Divisoria.

Salceda said that boycotting China-made goods would force exporters to seek alternative markets for their products and prompt industries to get their inputs from other sources. He said that China has placed little foreign direct investments and soft loans to the country. Most of the Filipino workers are deployed in Hong Kong and Macau, not in the Mainland, according to Salceda.

“The consequences of a China economic reprisal are offset by the strategic benefits of national unity and dignity, which by themselves are priceless. The risks of China boycott are reasonable and affordable when compared to the costs to national well-being of other options or of doing nothing,’’ said Salceda.

“Sure, it will not bring mighty China to their knees but it would make loud and clear to the imperial mandarins of Beijing that all Filipinos are united in their sentiment: enough to the bullying that tramples upon our dignity as a nation,” he said.

“This should send a strong signal to the Chinese people who shares kinship in our humanity that their rulers are committing these infringements in their name,’’ added Salceda, a former top stock market analyst and economic adviser of the previous Arroyo administration."

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III said dialogue and mutual respect are paramount in dealing with the Spratlys row.

In a speech before the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. on Saturday evening, Aquino said: “Whenever we face divisiveness or disagreements, I call on all of us to go back to the reason as to why we are embarking on these endeavors to strengthen our partnerships in the first place, whether they be with other nations, or with private organizations such as yours.”

Chinese Ambassador Liu Jianchao was present during the event.

Aquino said the 2 countries have had disagreements, but a continuing friendship is most beneficial.

“Let us continue along this path, to create partnerships characterized by continued dialogue and a culture of mutual respect for our historic and our current partners,” he said.

Approved foreign direct investments from China was almost P5.7 billion in 2010, more than double from the previous year.

Exports to China, on the other hand, have reached $1.4 billion for the first 3 months of the year.

“The money that our beneficial trade relationship has generated will go to projects that aim to help the many Filipinos who need the aid of good education, of proper health services, and of proper social services,” he said.

Aquino hopes China will continue to show interest in the country."

The president asking for more investments from China while a congressman asks for a boycott..... gulo naman, there's no collective stance. If you ask RP to boycott China made products, it's like asking a man to swim without water coz almost all products are made in China, even the raw materials are from China so this is not a feasible solution. For me the government should have invested heavily on the AFP from way way back, now we are way behind from our neighbors.

Yari din sila SM Malls sa China, i-boycott din nila.

*Note: Vinj is drinking his morning coffee from a China made tumbler and typing this message on an HP computer that is made in China. Checks time on Casio watch which is marked "encased in China" and will soon be making a phone call on cellphone which is also made in China, to a client who imports his goods from China, and make a report to boss who is... Fil Chinese.

So much for boycotting China even just for a moment.

Overnationalistic idiot who won a government seat because of....idiots.

So what if the country gets its share in the Spratlys? Chances are, they will be underutilized and wasted by inefficient and moronic people either way, considering how the gov't. and most of the people here do things. Unless they privatize the entire matter to some renowned firm. More often than not, you'll probably see squatters popping up in there and claiming the land is theirs.

There are a lot more important problems at hand than this decades-old problem. Like education, for instance.

So that, you know, we can get rid of the stupidity that put this numbskull in that position.
