Sila talaga. In fact. AFAIK Ayala avenue is a private road. It's the only one of its kind in PH.

Magbabago na yan. Pag naging presidente itong si Binay:
    - Binay Central Business District Ave. (formerly Ayala Ave.)
    - Binay Ave. (formerly EDSA)
    - Binay Northern Binay Territory (BINAT) Highway (formerly NLEX-SCTEX-TPLEX)
    - Binay Southern Binay Territory (BISET) Highway (formerly SLEX - STAR TOLL)

bro badkuk, i hate to rain on your parade BUT corporate taxes are NATIONAL taxes not local. thus, it is ultra vires on the part of the next president of the republic of the philippines, HIS EXCELLENCY JEJOMAR C BINAY SR. to increase them. in fact, most of our taxes are levied by the national government under the NIRC. only those mentioned under LGC of 1991 that LGUs, like the city of makati, can levy and collect, like RPT.

Seriously Atty, are you surrendering the fight against darkness by capitulating to the scenario of Binay as the next President?

The better track record is that of a mayor who can transform a city, financially and in terms of its people (an example in my mind is Jesse Robredo).

The succes of makati did not happen overnight. Years of hard work and a good mayor will always be credited

For a few people, there's a genuine sense of utang na loob. At the surface it looks like the honorable thing to do, but let's drill down into that a bit.

All the money that finances those programs come from taxpayers; mayors, etc by definition, are just there to make sure that money is truly being returned to the people. Some people are good at shelling out 10 pesos while pocketing 100, or making other people shoulder the costs and taking all the credit for it. People can get manipulated to feel utang na loob for being given things that they *should* be getting, trapping them in a misguided sense of loyalty to their alleged benefactors.

It's the taxpayers to whom we should be thankful to.

    You cannot blame these guys....

But sadly,- this what ails our society....

Tax money being pocketed bigtime,- and the insignificant portion that are returned through rightful projects,- are seen as "utang na loob",- and the "myth" is started...

Imagine,- if ALL our tax money are being spent on meaningful projects! The Philippines would not be "wanting"...

But where are those guys with these good intentions? They are swept on the sidelines and could do nothing with the impenetrable corrupt system....

Sinabi mo bro. The good guys with the good intentions are forced out of their jobs when they step on the toes of the bad guys. Bad guys win. We lose.

Resigned Customs Commissioner John Philip Sevilla has joined some Bureau of Customs reform team members in taking up the cudgels for five retired generals and two other former military officers who were sacked early this week as BOC district collectors.

These retired generals made huge sacrifices and took great personal risks to reform a corrupt institution, Sevilla posted on his Facebook account.

Their work yielded positive results, Sevilla said of the retired Armed Forces of the Philippines officers, who had been running key ports since 2013 as detailed personnel of the Department of Finances Office of Revenue Agency Modernization.

Sevilla, who quit in April 2015 because of unbearable political pressure, said there was unprecedented revenue growth and reductions in smuggling, which was recognized by the parties most affected by smugglingrice, steel and petrochemical producers.

They stepped on plenty of toes, he said, and Congress, that great institution of vested interests in customs, finally figured out a way to get them fired.

The retired military men deserve thanks and praise, not a stab in the back,
    Sevilla said.

How will you get people with the courage you need to reform a corrupt institution when no one has their back? he asked.

In his Facebook post, Sevilla also referred to the news report on the sacking of the generals as irresponsible reporting at its best.

The Inquirer learned about Sevillas Facebook post from bureau officials, including Deputy Customs Commissioner Jessie Dellosa, a former AFP chief.

Meanwhile, the sacked generals said in a statement that as soldiers, they subscribe to the tenets of discipline.

Thus, we follow orders without recrimination. When we survive following the order, we are ready to receive the next order, they also said.

They emphasized that by obeying, our nation survives and provides the opportunity to develop and to stand proudly among other nations.

The generals also stressed they face the gun of the enemy to protect our countrymen so they can live in peace.

Referring to the reference to them as illegal and inutile by Valenzuela City Rep. Magtanggol Gunigundo, the chair of the House ways and means committee, they warned that with the removal of the useless and inutile ex-soldiers, our countrymen will have to face the gun of the enemy themselves.
