    no.
    but in fairness,
non-marcoses were in charge, several terms before, and several terms after.

    but seriously,
what was happening at that time, when we had a trade surplus?

let's use a broader measure called the current account

a country's current account includes trade balance (usually the largest component), foreign investment, remittances, etc (basta ung pasok at labas ng pera)

usually may current account deficit ang pinas

pero noong 2020 nagkaroon ng malaking surplus

coz the lockdowns killed the economy

    imports fell

since we barely imported anything $$$ didn't leave the country

remember ano level ng USDPHP in 2020/21?

    went as low as 47

    coz dami naipon dollars

    -

pero as the economy reopened balik tayo sa deficit

balik ang imports with a vengeance

because there was capital flight when marcos sr was in charge (martial law effect)

current capital flight also contributes to a weak peso

Just look at our FDI in the past two decades or so. Less investment contributes to a weak economy and currency as well.

    Top graph.

I beg to disagree. The peso is not falling faster than other currencies in SEA because the peso is falling faster. It the because the other currencies in SEA are recovering fast.

Not really. But the dark side made sure to hide it from the 31M.

    he's in a difficult position.
because he is influential, there will always be someone who will want to cause things to roll things in his favor, whether he even hints at it or not... or against him.
the limelight is on the investigators. they must strictly follow procedure... cross their T's and dot their i's...
    difficult position for everyone involved.

He should be consistent with his pronouncements.
Let his son rot in jail also while the case is being heard.
