Generally, hindi mahirap ang Pilipinas, yes, maraming mahirap dito pero marami ring may kaya, Yung mahirap, they are so because of their fault na rin and their past generations who didn't do much to climb out of the rut.

Then combine that with a dysfunctional "government".
i agree with you dude!

    at marami pa

The problem is the goverment on how they govern this country. Instead of focusing there solemn oath to serve the people they are acting like a wild dog. Nakakahiya na.

When the Americans left the Philippines it was one of the top countries in Asia even ahead of Japan. It's been over 60 years since they left you still blame the Americans for the problems of the country now. It wasn't the Americans who destroyed the public educational system and it wasn't them that placed the country in debt. Maybe the people should start looking at themselves as part of the problem stop blaming others.

-mga balikbayan na pinoy eh nakatira lang sa ibang bansa ng two years eh pati accent feeling 20 years sa america......Bakit mga chinese, japanese, koreans eh kahit matagal na sa states ang accent nila eh wala naman american twang...

Alot of those same immigrants that you speak of also live in Chinatown, Ktown, etc and never learn to speak english because they have been sheltered from the rest of US society.

The crab mentality of Pinoys is the reason why the country never can get out of the rut. On this board alone you see it, just look at the Pacman threads when he fights people post they want him to lose because he became egotistical. Why not want him to win because he is the pride of the country? Regardless of his ego he represents the country to the world. I guess Pinoys just don't like it if others succeed and they don't so they want that person to tumble down to their level. Just my .02.

there are so many ways to analyze the "progressiveness"of a country. economists will give you economic indicators, social anthropologists will give sociological analyses, historians will give you the historical perspective, etc., etc. for me, the most basic analysis boils down to what i would call the surviveability criteria:
    • can the country's basic infrastructure support its population? do we have enough food production to feed our population? do we have enough roads, schools, health centers, etc. to support the population?
any country in the world today, from the biggest to the smallest, that can say yes to these criteria i call progressive. we, filipinos, always say that things were better back in the "good old days", the 50's, 60's, & 70's. i say that this is true because at that time, the national infrastructure could comfortably support the population, even w/the graft & corruption that existed even at that time. problem is, our population growth has outstripped our ability to improve our basic infrastructure.

controlling population growth is the first step towards progress. every country who has been succesful in this has progressed. the countries w/ch have large populations & uncontrolled population growth have not.

So may utang ng 1 peso kaagad.

Japan, Taiwan and Korea have the highest savings rate in the world (courtesy of course of the frugality in the midst of prosperity of their people.

Dito, in the midst of massive poverty, sige lang ang maraming Pinoy na magwaldas ng pera sa walang kawawaang bagay (fiesta, blow-out, pagnanalo sa lotto, party til you drop, yung namatayan sa wowowee binigyan ng 70t naubos sa pakain ng tao at balato, ayun nahingi uli sa ABS-CBN.)

We have the lowest savings rate in Asia (kaya mahirap tayo. No local money for investment. Kung may limited savings, we apend it on luxuries, jewelries and other non-productive purposes plus are spent on financial scams , pyramiding ponzi-type scams and other quick money rackets...

    Ubos-ubos biyaya kinabukasan nakatunganga.

Ungas yung maraming pinoy na Asyong Aksaya.
