SAN Juan Mayor JV Ejercito, son of jailed former President Joseph Estrada, is considering running for senator next year.
Ejercito, who is on his second term as mayor, said he would like to run for reelection, but he could still change his mind.
“I can reconsider my decision if the opposition would like me to run and if there would be an overwhelming clamor from the public for me to run,” he told the Inquirer.
Should he make it, he would become the third member of the Estrada family in the Senate since the former leader was ousted in 2001.
It is not yet clear whether or not Estrada’s wife, more popularly known as Sen. Loi, would seek reelection when her term ends next year. Their son Jinggoy Estrada was elected senator in 2004.
The 36-year-old Ejercito is Estrada’s son with former actress Guia Gomez.
A statement distributed to reporters the other night during a dinner organized by Ejercito referred to a recent survey which listed his name as among the top 12 candidates for senator.
The same statement also claimed that the former president, who is detained on plunder charges, was grooming Ejercito to replace his wife Loi who will complete her six-year term as senator next year.
