Metro folks favor Ping to take over
Pulse Asia says Gloria is least acceptable leader

OPPOSITION Sen. Panfilo Lacson is the best person to lead the country should there be a vacancy in the presidency, according to the latest Pulse Asia survey conducted in Metro Manila.
The survey, which polled 300 residents, was conducted from July 2 to July 8.
Around 36 percent believed Lacson is the best choice followed by Vice President Noli de Castro (15 percent).
President Joseph Estrada is third with 8 percent, Susan Roces and Arroyo are tied at fourth (7 percent) while Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. and President Fidel Ramos are fifth at 4 percent.
When asked who they think is not acceptable to lead the nation, Arroyo ranked first with 25 percent followed by former Defense Secretary Fortunato Abat (17 percent), De Castro (12 percent), Davide (11 percent), Estrada (9 percent), Roces (6 percent), and Lacson (5 percent).
In a separate list of personalities presented by Pulse Asia as unacceptable to lead the nation, Arroyo also came in first (53 percent), followed by Ramos (25 percent). Bro. Eddie Villanueva and Roces came in at third (23 percent), De Castro and Abat at fourth (17 percent), followed by Estrada (15 percent), Davide (14 percent) and Lacson (13 percent).
At least 41 percent believe that a snap election, the resignation of President Arroyo or her impeachment is the best thing that could happen for the country.
Ten percent believe that Arroyo should be removed by any means, whether constitutional or not. Another 10 percent is in favor of her resigning and being replaced by a junta in preparation for the election of either a new president or prime minister.
About 16 percent believe that Arroyo’s should complete her mandate while 6 percent said she should stay while the amendments to the Constitution for a shift from presidential to parliamentary form of government are being undertaken.
Twenty-four percent feel that the worst thing that could happen is foreign intervention in the current political crisis while 18 percent said a coup is the worst that could happen.
Seventeen percent said allowing Arroyo to continue her term until 2010 is the worst that could happen while 14 percent said the resignation, impeachment or conduct of snap election is.
Another 14 percent said a coup is worst while another 11 percent said allowing De Castro to succeed Arroyo in case she resigns would not be good for the country
