Astronomers use math... they know how fast light travels in a specific amount of time. They don't determine the age of something around the universe by looking through their telescopes. They just determine how long ago the light they are currently receiving from a target star has left the star itself.

I guess religion colored glasses makes things blurry for you to comprehend.

and what about math & computations, how sure are we that the math we have now can explain the universe. even Kumon math that is taught to kids are being considered obsolete na din. even math needs evolving.
I don't know about you but "1 + 1 = 2" all the time since before the time of the ancient Egyptians to today.

Btw, math is a tool, just like any other instrument.

Math helps us quantify, calculate & predict the world around us.

The style of Kumon math might be obsolete it is just a personal style of mental calculations. But math is still math. You might use Kumon or a calculator or an abacus or a piece of paper to add or subtract. You might reach the answer slower or faster, it is still the same.

math is always dependent on variables. pano ka makaka-input ng variables on studying the entire universe if you're just staying here on earth? imho, i'm not a science expert pero I do believe this is a legitimate question.
Since you admit that you are not a scientist, (especially with your religion colored glasses), leave the universe to the real scientist.

And the answer to everything is 42.

A President can never a president if he sits all day-long blogging/surfing in the computer. He needs to get out, to become a people person, mingle etc. by doing so, that'll input some variable to his psyche in order for him to become an effective leader.
Really? ... we got an ex-president who sat and drank all the time with his buddies in his private office.

what does an astronomer do besides sitting all day long computing and observing? hey, I have computed this theory about Saturn's physics based on data on the last Voyager mission. how do I verify? ay teka wala pang nimbento spaceship na makakpunta sa saturn, ok na'to tatanggapin na ng masang earth ang computations ko, kelangan i-vouch ng mga kapwa ko astronomer / scientists na may credibility.
Science is about repeatability to get the same result. Hence your numbers will have to be checked by your peers to verify if there was no error. What is wrong about that especially when you have admitted that you are not a scientist nor a mathematician.

people like to attack Church People and Politicians and Famous people bec. these organizations are somehow perceived as corruptible / deceitful. how sure are we that the scientific community is not doing the same?
The Church attacks everyone else it finds it has issues with.

The church attacks the scientific community.

The church attacks people of different faiths.

The church attacks people of different gender.

The church attacks people who have difference of opinion with them.

The church is corrupt and covers up this fact.

The church has it's own political agendas who's motives are kept secret.

The church is no more different than another political organization.

    so scientists are useless

yeah... that's why governments provide billions of dollars of funding for their projects

    astronomers wanted space probes -- they got Pioneer 10 & 11, Voyager 1 & 2, Mariner 9 etc

astronomers wanted a telescope in space -- they got Hubble

physicists wanted a bigger particle accelerator -- they got the Large Hadron Collider

obviously scientists are useful enough that governments are willing to spend billions of dollars of taxpayer money to satisfy scientists' curiosity

    know what's useless? your argument

kita mo why do you answer in generalization. ganyan ba talaga ang atheist? isang sagot na lang, it's either black or white.

I said there is a possibility that the scientific community can also have the same setup / bureaucracy like the Church and Politics and other organization. organization pa din naman yan eh- they have pride, vanity, internal competition and of course, money allotments.

eto ang tanong ko naman sayo, why is it that you're are so confident that the scientific community is all honest / reliable/ untarnished? it's just as if you believe it so much that they have perfected what the US Marines and other brotherhoods are trying to achieve.

you are putting too much faith in them hehe. wait, did I say "faith" lol

i know meron politika sa science. meron mainstream scientific community, meron fringe science

    i use DISCERNMENT

i don't believe everything i read. if it doesnt make sense i reject it. even if the source seems reliable

you are putting too much faith in them hehe. wait, did I say "faith" lol
i don't use faith. i dont blindly accept information received

    again, i discern. i filter

unlike religious people who blindly accept/follow/obey whatever their religious leaders teach/say/command. sheep

these are words from one of the greatest mathematician "slash" scientist of all time. I think even he knew that math is not the only key / tool to prove a fact.

could it be that you're just filtering what you wanted to hear. just like us

be careful with discernment though, at times you will filter the wrong info, and be too proud to retract it. if you don't retract when you make an error in discernment, then you're perfect in every discernment/decision. are you? walang mali talaga? hehe

if new information counters older info but proves to make more sense than older info i will accept the new info

i'm bendable. i'm open to new ideas

    unlike closed minded religious people

    Read my words again...

"Btw, math is a tool, just like any other instrument.

I said math is a tool... not the only tool... a tool.

Irony ... advise about potential "error in discernment" from someone who is inflexible in his own views given to someone with a open minded view about life and the world around him.

Mauulit lang ang History way back Galileo's time pag ganito ang concept!
Wake up Brother, hindi nakarating sa moon ang tao kung hindi dahil sa Mathematics/physics, walang cellphone/computer kung hindi dahil sa quantum physics, and most of the 19th century scientist (including Einstein) believed in "God" which means "origin" from a latin word!

no not perfect. but far better than those who believe everything they read/hear basta galing sa church/religious leader nila

sabi ng mga religious leader i-reject ang evolution kasi galing daw kay Satan

so kahit na explanations using evolution make sense and answer questions that religions can't answer di parin tatanggapin kasi galing daw kay Satan

you listen to your religious leaders say the same things over and over brainwashing you to prevent you from accepting new ideas from the world of science. ideas that can make you better understand the world around you. ideas that can make you more intelligent. being the obedient follower you reject new ideas specially ideas that go against your long-held beliefs. so what happens? you stop progressing. you stop growing. you're stuck. stuck with myths

to make yourself feel good about rejecting math and science you convince yourself math and science is useless. you belittle mathematicians and scientists... that they don't do anything useful

then you invent your own simple-minded explanations of the world around you

you throw in myths, aliens, religion

buti sana kung convincing mga na-invent mong explanations magkakaroon ka ng followers pwede ka mag start ng cult

    pero hinde eh

that's a given already. regarding the expedition of the moon, i'm still not convinced that it actually happened. Russia and the US are in the propaganda war during that period. It just so happened that America has Hollywood.

sa physics, or otherwise known as the law of physics is derived mostly on the computations / forces here on earth, not space/universe. that's what *ghost and *uls and I are talking about.

we listen to our religious leaders bec. they are our experts in matters of the faith. we the faithful admit that we get lost, and we need their guidance. we makes mistakes, we sin, we ask forgiveness, we renew.

if you will really analyze, we are more human than most of you atheists bec. we admit that we are not perfect. the only one perfect is our God. we consider math and science as alternative tools for survival but we don't embrace it totally. not all people are blessed to understand math and science, but all people are capable of love and sacrifice - the true essence of religion.

we don't give much importance to facts / new ideas (no matter how convincing) because it's never absolute. Love is absolute.

yes, we are simple-minded bec. we don't attempt to complicate things and events. we believe that life can only have some level of control but never full control. we leave the rest (things beyond our control) to God - hoping/praying that things wouldn't go worse.

we attack atheists because they are ingrates. they live among us, partake/benefit from our religion-molded society and then has the stomach to ridicule our faith and our leaders in the process. we go to war bec. we defend our faith and beliefs.
we go offensive if we spread/preach our faith to others.

if indeed atheism is the way to go, then why can't they just all go to North Korea and make a difference - go make a successful society / nation that is truly God-free. The Soviets have failed. the pagans / the barbarians have failed.

We have yet to see a successful atheistic society.

Ok, let make it a little bit simplier. The Satelite that escape from earth's gravity, rocket, high altitude Jet...!
    Still not convince?

    Ok, space/universe?
There was so called General & Special theory of Relativity that helps scientists do their job to explore the universe, plus the Hubble telescope that proved the doubt of all the people in this world about the position of our solar system & the universe. But maybe, except of you & your kind! Do you?

I guess also still believe that the Earth is at the center of the universe. And also the Earth is flat, supported at the bottom by four giant elephants standing on top of a gigantic turtle?

    Yup! Sounds like you.

If the church claims to be the "moral compass" of society, then you're in trouble.
