My 1.5L Hyundai Matrix is my first diesel car. So far, I've only reached 173kph. After reaching 170, the speedometer arrow budges slowly.
The 1.5L 3-cylinder/12-valve (82ps/173Nm) engine it followed had a maximum speed of 160. I have a 1.5L 4-cylinder/16-valve (102ps/235Nm) engine and it accelerates far better and more consistently than the original but it seems that the peak speed did not improve much. I was expecting something more than 10kph max, perhaps twenty or so.
By the way, is it normal for a diesel engine to have a 4,500rpm minumum redline mark? I dunno, perhaps I was just spoiled by our gasoline cars with 6,000rpm.
For the owners of 2.0+L diesels, what's your maximum speed? A comparison perhaps of turbo to non-turbo?
Thanks!

well, my former ride: mitsubishi delica 4wd
i managed to push 140kph only from its 3-ton body only from its 4d56t 2.5t, no load aside from a full gym bag and myself...and tell you, i dont want to do it again, i may not be lucky next time..its lifted 2-inches,pa!
now my present ride: my liteace 4wd with electronically controlled 2c-t...i havent pushed this yet...still cleaning up all mess that is left of its previous owner....Last edited by alwayz_yummy; August 27th, 2005 at 10:20 PM.

170Kph - LC120 and Starex CRDi
The diesels do have a lower redline compared to their petrol-fed counterparts.
