wala ngang glow plug ang crosswind and it's siblings or big brothers (fuego, trooper, NKR, elf trucks)
Diesel engines don't burn fuel by ignition (ie. spark plug). On the intake stroke, the piston moves down and draws air only. When the piston moves up, it compresses the air, thereby raising its temperature. Then fuel is injected and consequently burned by the hot air, producing power.
Kapag malamig, malamig din ang cylinder. So this has the effect of reducing the temperature of the compressed air, which might result in hard starts. Thus, heater plugs are used to compensate.
Hope this helps!
That's what I was pertaining to. I guess some people are much greater in explaining more than I do. :DOriginally posted by Yoda

Yebo, kahit mainit panahon hirap start diesel kapag completely cooled down ang engine. MB100's for example. try removing the relay for the heater. ayaw talaga mag start ang punieta
My ride is using a 4jb1 surplus engine, with glow plug.

I advised him to let the glow plug do its work.

4jb1 is fuegos 2.8 engine.
Exactly as what yebo has pointed out :DOriginally posted by belcher

All functions in a modern diesel engine are controlled by the ECM communicating with an elaborate set of sensors measuring everything from R.P.M. to engine coolant and oil temperatures and even engine position (i.e. T.D.C.). Glow plugs are rarely used today on larger engines. The ECM senses ambient air temperature and retards the timing of the engine in cold weather so the injector sprays the fuel at a later time. The air in the cylinder is compressed more, creating more heat, which aids in starting.
Smaller engines and engines that do not have such advanced computer control use glow plugs to solve the cold-starting problem.
I wish Doc Diesel were around to back me up... di ko to specialty to
anyways, to answer some of the questions f Mr. Bubbles and the others.. at magkaron ng konting kalinawan, please read the following links.

simply put, a direct inject engine doesn't need glow plugs because fuel is directly injected into the cylinder. it relies solely on the compressed hot air to ignite.
yun lang muna at di ko expertise to. let's wait for engine experts to give their answers.
basta, I can say with absolute certainty, alang glow plugs ang crosswind. :D
