    Just thinking....
If you have a PTO winch, you can't drive your wheels while using it? you just put the burden on the winch?

Not like on an electric winch w/c you can accelerate while the winch is working, para hindi hirap yung winch?

what is the advantage of a pto winch?

In most cases, Yes, you can drive the wheels simultaneously during PTO winch operation.

Advantage of PTO, no overheating winch motor so you can pull for extended periods. You also have in your command variable speed and gears to opearate the winch according to your needs.

If you set your transfer case lever to "N" while the winch is engaged (in the Pajero this is done by moving the third shifter and engaging the winch clutch) then the vehicle won't move when you step on the accelarator to power the winch.

If you are in gear, however, the wheels will turn as you power the winch.

For me, PTO's are the best type of winch. Too bad not all vehicles can be easily equipped with one.

Depends on your transfer case (yata) if it has the provision for the PTO winch set-up....I have seen Olive Drabs LC40 and another friends LC40, meron itong provision sa transfer case for the "propeler" shaft that drives the PTO winch.

    just my 2 cents.

Tama mo po kayo, Sir Otep :D

You can even use it kahit naka 2wd ka lang :D without locking the front hubs.

pag ginamit mo na yung 4L and engage aandar na yung rear wheel mo sabay winch. [yung truck toward sa hinihila... forward movement ] (using 1st gear or 2nd the higher the faster)

kaya lang pag nilagay mo ng reverse yung gear....mag re release ang winch mag kaka buhol buhol na sya....so may disadvantage din... di pwede ng reverse at winch

neutral for winch naman...steady lang truck using breaks you can pull the stuck vehicle :D... if you will not use the breaks...forward movement nanaman hehehe [w/o the help of the rear diff]

experience lang po sa 2LT jeep wrangler ko with PTO winch :D

haaayy nako na mimiss ko RESCUE Jeep Cruizer ko

Land cruiser and safari may provision for PTO. Ang bad trip sa PTO, pag namatay engine mo, stuck ka na. ang bad trip sa electric, umiinit and drain battery

Yes, that is the disadvantage of the PTO.

Electric winches will work more effectively if you employ a dual battery system and work within its limitations.

A PTO winch system requires an extended front to accomodate the drive shaft, of course a power-take-off (PTO) provision is needed on the transfer case.

Contemporary 4x4's hardly feature an extended bumper and pto facility nowadays.

Yes I agree a PTO winch is a superior tool. But it pays to have a backup in case your engine stalls.
