hi dudes! i find your forums very informative!

i hope you could help me on this one: i'm planning to buy a converted pajero/delica. how much would it cost me to fix everything (as in total fix! wiring sytems, brakes, steering, etc) ? i've read some of your threads regarding the said vehicles and they are pretty scary--but would you be so kind to give me the details (prices of labor, job, parts, etc.) in order to eliminate the threat of encountering accidents? especially sa delica vans? wala naman kasing production nito sa atin, right? is there any hope to make these vehicles safer?

The Delica is basically a cross between an L300 (Exceed) and a Pajero (GEN I).

For LHD parts donors (esp. for interior and trim parts), you can turn to the following:
    *L300 (esp. the Exceed model)
    *Pajero GEN I (the boxtype)
    *Hyundai Grace (cousin of L300)

The Hyundai Grace uses a more rounded and modern looking dashboard and you might want to use it instead of the blocky dashboard Mitsubishi makes. It is a direct fit.

You can also get the front a/c and steering systems (including the steering column with the brake master mounted on it) off these vans to put in your Delica. There is really not much to do with regards to wiring. As long as every system is working properly (dash lamps, gauges, switches, etc.).

Sorry I don't have prices. But the rock bottom prices in Apalit, Pampanga may help lower your costs down.

After all the conversion stuff is through then we can sort out the details.

    Sir Richard,

It would be a good idea if you did. Sana pati yung steering column palitan niyo na din po para yung wiper stalk ang nasa kanan and yung lamp/flasher stalk ang nasa kaliwa (baligtad kasi sa Japan).

If that proves to be out of budget in the meantime, kahit yung mga RHD-specific underchassis components na lang po muna like the steering gearbox and other steering components.

Madami namang L300/Pajero/Grace parts sa market to help you in your project.

Mahirap sa CASA. Most of them are OJT pa lang.

Pansin mo kapag pumunta ka sa CASA, they will always insist that you replace a part. Kasi most of the time they don't have the know-how and the experience (and the time) to open up a part (i.e. alternator, starter, compressor, etc.), to find out what's wrong.

Gumagaling lang ang mga CASA mechanics kapag bumukod na sila at nagtayo ng sarili nilang shop, based on my experience.

    Sir,

If for family use, the Delica would be more appropriate. If you intend to it for personal use with some off-road adventures in between, the Pajero is hard to beat.

Sometimes I still miss my Besta.

otep, 'yun nga actually ang plano--delica van, but after reading some of the threads medyo nagbago isip ko. mukhang mas ok ang pajero.

do you happen to know the comparison of the two vehicles' respective maintenance?

Most common problems ng delica (or any converted vech I would say) are:

    1) Improper conversion to LHD sa steering. Check the set-up (ilalim before you buy it)...tell tale signs would be fresh weld (may rust) sa areas na dapat walang welding, hindi balance ang turning radius ng left and right turns, hard to steer kahit power steering.

sol'n: replace the assembly (preferably lahat ng hindi fit). My friend paid P3,500 labor and P6,000 at least sa parts (donor was hyundai grace) from a surplus yard. Hindi pa brandnew yan and its almost P10K na.

    2) Dashboard (as mentioned ni otep get an LHD from the surplus yard)

    3) Shifters are mali ang orientation kun automatic. I suggest to stay away from automatic na gearbox vechicles because they are very expensive to maintain.

    4) Front chairs...they just doesn't fit sa Delica well enough....iba pa rin kung designed for LHD.

    6) Side mirrors, specially the left side is really a hassle.

    7) Wipers, minsan pangit ang pagkakabutas ng inilipat sa kaliwa. O kaya napuersa ng wiper arms nung nire-orient to LHD config.

    8) Carpet is usually madumi or pangit (palitan lang ang tanging solution). Its about P5K-7K sa magaling gumawa.

    9) Check under the dash board....minsan maraming butas na hindi tinakpan ng husay when the steering was converted....pumapasok ang tubig minsan.

All in all my friend spent an additional P30K-50K (turbo was damaged na - oil drip- and he added a turbo timer P2K or P4K yata secondhand).

    my 2 cents.

    richlazarus::

    Good Day and Welcome!

I think mayroon nilabas ang Mitsubishi na van with the exact same body as the delica. If i were in your shoes, id go for this instead.

Mahirap kasi sa converted, even when it seems that you have everything handled, mayroon at mayroon pa rin lalabas na problem diyan. If you dont mind the"project car" analogy, then go for it.

one of my cousins has a 4x4 delica. He got it for 200k+.

The things i like are the JDM bits which you cant get anywhere. Stuff like the Skylite Roof and moonroof. the retracting kortinas (kewl) etc.

Kaya lang, everytime i see the AT lever and the sawed dash..... nasususya ako....
