Same model as yours, tonka look with hood scoop and 4M40 engine. At first duda ako sa engine nya baka pinalitan. But the seller took the original invoice and proved it was an original from Citimotors Makati. :D

Better not rush things, scope the market and have an actual check with every unit you want to check out on classified ads. Don't barter on the phone without seeing the actual unit first. Test drive it, test all the amenities it has, gauges and switches. Pump the accelerator upto 2000rpm and check for carbon deposits especially oil droplets. Then knock on every panel you suspect of being abused and hit occasionally. Door jambs should be aligned and easily closed with light force. Inspect the maintenance booklet for it's tune-ups and change oils. So far that's what I could think of right now. And before I forget, surplus units don't have sliding windows at the back (they are fixed windows). :D

get the RAV4... 3 months old pa lang yun so you won't have to worry about anything (except maybe collision damage, which can be easily inspected for). a real bargain at just 985K... i assume you find the RAV4 suitable for your needs by the mere fact that you're considering it. i say go for it.

again, thanks for all the tips and suggestions!!! 8)

the RAV4 can fit my family but lacks storage space. what I like about it is its car-like characteristics, quiet cabin, ala-celica interior and most especially...

its price! i'm one who can't resist a bargain. BUT, i need to inspect it first.

now the 98 PAJ really fits us with space to spare! really a toss-up between the 2.

but, as Ungas said, i won't rush into things...

unless i fall in love with one of them and decide right then and there! am also a compusive buyer! :D

    anyway, on with the hunt...

 * kimpOy!!! ginugulo mo ko!

a mini-van was actually my first choice! pero wala sa pinas yung Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey(?). Or even the Ford Windstar. don't like the Serena. Like the Carnival/Sedona but it's a Kia. no offense to Kia owners but that's my opinion/prerogative. Like the Venture but for the availability of parts, etc.

so........ SUV na lang ako. :D taas pa ng ground clearance (in case of flood).

Rav4- check if that comes with a transferable 2 yr warranty. How was your experience maintaining a Toyota vs the Honda- think Toyota is more reliable?

Rav4 will be nice but...have a little constraint regarding space area. Since your a family man w/ 3 kids?? , dont you go out with a yaya for those kids? then the pajero will be the answer for you especially if one of your kid is still a baby... imagine those strollers, bags for baby bottles, diapers, extra clothes, water...etc..w/c can be easily accomodated by a paj or a trooper. Rav4 can only comfortably seat 4 full grown-ups. 5 will be a bit cramped. IMO it is nice if you still dont have any kids or just have 1 kid.

But I do want to have one of those Rav4's...

    thanks for all your inputs.

now i need those mirrors for the back. ano mas maganda at san mura -- yung nakatungo na nakakabit sa roof or yung nasa gitna na parang magnifying glass?

also need one of those side mirrors na kinakabit sa front right. suggestions pls.

    thanks!

Congrats! RAV4-J pala yan may audio/video options. :D

Based from expirience, mas maganda yung nakatungo ikinakabit sa door or body panel. Mas kitang-kita mo yung aatrasan mo. Get the one for Starex models or Sedona ones, eto ang pinakamalapad na mirrors sold in Banawe accessories shops. Or you could opt for a Trooper's mirror which I bought mine from Richcars or was it Goldcars along N. Roxas near Banawe also (this has the long arm advantage you will need beyond your reserve tire). Those magnifying attachments only adjust the angle pero may blind side ka pa rin near your rear bumper.

Yung fender mirrors, madaming designs available. Meron yung dual CURVED mirrors like ours wherein you could see right fender and front bumper at the same time. Meron din naman yung maliliit na nakikita ko usually sa FX or Adventures which only views your right fender. Note: I emphasized curved mirrors, kasi madami din yung flat options which won't help you in anyway.
