August 17th, 2004 03:33 PM #1What's the allowable compression of a 4D56TDIC engine?
My readings ranges from 345 to 355 psi. Is it good or bad?

4d56 cylinder compression pressure
Min= 1,920 kPa x 0.145 = 278.4psi
Max variation= 300kPa x 0.145 = 43.5psi
adding both psi values gives you 321.9 psi
according to pajero expert jgatutubo your readings are ok
take note values are for 4d56 only
there are other factors you may want to look at when you do a compression check so you know mechanical condition of upper end (pistons, rings, valves, head gaskets) of your engine
sepcifically if compression is down due to leakage caused by worn rings, defective valves or seatsor a blown head gasket.
NOTE: engine must be at normal operating temp and batt must be fully charged for this check...

August 17th, 2004 06:09 PM #3Thank you rlp.
At least I know that my engine is healthy.
My next move is to replace the air and fuel filter and calibrate the fuel system.
