sir otep babanggitin ko na sana eh na bakit un mga canter namin sa 2nd gear na lagi nag start.. basta yung mga trucks and the like 2nd gear na sila deretcho eh unless super heavy load or inclined and road.

It all boils down to different gearing ratios; if tranny has low speed gear, meaning smaller gear (bigger numerical ratio), most of the 1st & 2nd gears can be skipped since it will move much heavier loads than empty cargo. Plus the fact that differential gears need to be accounted for. Heck, even an International tractor head can pull its own weight from stand still at 4th gear.
Most vehicles sold out of the factory for people mover are engineered for high speed purposes, meaning your vehicle can be loaded to a limit where it can pull its own weight when loaded. Trucks were meant to carry heavy stuffs, hence, lower gear ratios, but not much high speed output.
siguro pwede 1st gear tapos pag nagroll na konti ang sasakyan change to 2nd. Masama pag 2nd gear ang gagamitin pang start
yung second-gear start sa mga automatic (including "manumatics") designed for low-traction surfaces yun. magkukulang yung torque for dry pavement, although mukhang di hirap dahil sa A/T. but still, let first gear do it's job. malaki ang difference ng ratio ng first gear and second gear sa mga kotse hehe.
You only bypass first gear if the load on the vehicle and terrain requires it, say if you put a truck engine in a jeepney body it shouldn't have any problems because of the relatively lighter load.
Getting rolling on slippery surfaces would benefit from bypassing first gear and jumping on to two or even three to get traction.
Thanks for all your inputs, comments and advices. I've learned a lot from them.
sayang clutch, increase fuel consumption, because of more buwelo before going to 3rd gearOriginally Posted by geebunny

99% ng mga jeepney na nakikita ko 2nd gear kaagad sila. ewan ko lang bakit.
truck gearboxes. The old L300 is like that. 1st gear on those boxes are only made for creeping (0-20 or 30 kph) and don't accelerate at ALL. 2nd gear is like 1st gear on most cars (0-40 or 0-60 kph, I think) and is all you'll need.Originally Posted by erict
But on passenger vehicles like cars and SUVs with longer gearing, this is bad for the clutch. If your second gear reaches 80kph or more, forget it... start in 1st.
Theoretically, though, you could start in any gear. Drove a Mazda Van before (2 tons, but merely 1.8 liter gas!) that could creep away from a stop in 5th.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
from full stop, inclined/hangin... dapat gamitin ang first gear. pero kung rolling na at kaya nang sa 2nd agad i-derecho. di naman masama, i do that on my adventure. la namang nangyaring masama.
AFAIK, on diesel engines with very short 1st gear OK to. not sure bout gas engines.
di ko gusto mag 2nd gear na nka fully stopped.. ( ayaw ko ma pud2x )
1st gear talaga kahit hintayin kung pumasok syak na nka torque..
what do you think?
