Bull bars, nudge bars = safe?

With regards to airbag equipped SUV's and Pickups... can they be trusted? Won't they hamper airbag deployment in case of an accident?

How's about those nudge bars that carryboy has? Its made out of polyurethance rubber(I think) except for the skid plates.

IF your vehicle is equipped with SRS, better use approved products. Bars from or sold in Oz usually have an ADR compliance number to prove that they will not interfere with SRS.

I'm not sure about Carryboy. But if they sell their products in Oz for airbag equipped vehicles, then they must be approved also.

Some TJM and ARB bumpers/bullbars are airbag compatible. those constructed from backyard industries certainly are not.

none. but airbag sensors were designed to activate at a certain impact force. and these add-on nudge bars or 3rd party bumpers &/or bullbars will definitely affect the impact force. either it will increase the force or decrease it.

Bullbars IMO are just adds to the weight and length of the vehicle. May bumangga nga sakin na Delica, naka bull bar, nakafull stop ako tapos may narinig akong "thudd" sumabit yung bullbar sa bumper ko buti na lang di nagasgas konting dent lang. Sorry mods kung OT na hehehe. Pero I hope you get my drift.

mas malambot yata ang nudge bar kesa bull bar. yung bull bar kasi e literally, pambangga ng bulls and kangaroos sa australian outback, para hindi masira yung front end ng car.

Nudge bars are add-on tubular devices which are primarily decorative but will take light impacts. Yes, some of them can be used to 'gently' push stuff out of the way.

Airbag sensors are usually placed in the cabin (where they are protected from the elements). They fire by detecting the amount of decelleration (spell check, please) a vehicle experiences (in g's). Some bars can cushion or exaggerate impacts which can confuse the SRS sensor.

Personally, the DMAX looks cleaner without the Carryboy thingie...

there was a controversial study here in the US that concluded that these devices did not necessarily decrease safety for the vehicle equipped with them, but were definitely more harmful to any other vehicles (and their occupants) it hit in an accident

i think we might have discussed this in this forum, actually....i'll try to find the article.
