It is not a wear item.

usual maintenance are the carbon brushes. they are replaced if they are thin already. and sometimes bearings.

July 26th, 2003 10:08 AM #5Another question po. What will happen to the alternator kung malubog sa tubig during offroading? Oks lang po ba yun?

Sabi ng mga Mitsu guys sa Pajero forums it will run all day underwater daw. Ang problem lang minsan is yung mud or debris in the water can get in.

July 26th, 2003 02:45 PM #7That's great, Sir Otep!! If that's the case up to what level ba pwede lumubog sa tubig, say you are fording a river?

July 26th, 2003 03:59 PM #8for your first query, before replacing or adding stuff, check the elec. load first, from there you may estimate if you add more lights and accessories. For me i have 4 head lights and 4 fog lights ++ aircon, stereo, etc. and my 60amp alternator is already loaded so i replaced it with a 110amp alternator from a suplus shop and it fits good on my 2L engine. Now i have no problems with my lights.

Check where the computer box is. Vulnerable tuloy.
Just use silicon or WD40 on the components that are water sensitive.

Suzuki has a stock 40ampere alternator. Went I changed my headlights to 140/110, parang hindi kaya kasi medyo slow ang transition from low to hi-beam. Went to Tower of David autoelectricals along Espana as recommended by Ungas and had the alternator replaced to a surplus 70ampere. Wala na ako masabi afterwards!
Computer box of the Vitara is located near your glove compartment
IIRC they're with AVID. The reported numbers in the TG article are from CAMPI.
