Beg your pardon but the e-jeepney didn't even have the option to swap batteries until I mentioned it in the discussion here in tsikot. Before, they were all content with the idea of just recharging the entire ejeepney for 8 hours every day. They never thought of designing a swappable battery pack to keep the ejeepney running more hours in a day with a spare battery pack.

Simple idea... that they never thought of. Then later they claimed that they had the idea daw from before... yeah right! Then they retrofit it badly into the current ejeep design. if it was designed from the start, it would be an easier job to swap battery packs.

    The press release is telling.

The $2,500 price is low. Hell, that's barely enough to buy a brand new Japanese motorbike and sidecar.

A respectable electric motorbike costs around 60-80 thousand pesos commercially. Add a tricycle sidecar and you're straight at 100k pesos, which, given the increasing peso, is almost exactly $2,500.

But that motorbike will not be able to pull a full load like that at speed. For practicality, you'll need a bigger traction motor than the puny motors most e-bikes have. Get a real motor in there and your price for the bike alone goes to 150k or so.

$2,500 is an unrealistic target. Unless they say they're subsidizing each unit at $2,500 and the recepients will pay the excess, which will be anywhere between 50-75k. Otherwise you will get puny e-trikes with less earning potential, barely strong enough to carry two passengers at a time.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

How can you expect to manufacture vehicles cost effectively when the majority of the metalwork is done by hand? Simple matter of economics.

    *creativepinoy,

Welcome to Tsikot. Sayang you weren't around in 2007 when there was a design crowdsourcing in Tsikot.

In 2007, the MVPMAP PhUV was introduced but its style was controversial.

A group effort by Tsikot members to redesign the PhUV produced three concepts: X, Y and Z.

    This is Y:

Competition has become very intense in the Philippines with more CBUs coming in both from CAMPI and AVID members. Aspirations to have a locally designed and assembled vehicles will be very difficult to achieve now.
