I saw this advertisement and shows that indeed there are lots of enterprising Pinoy who would like to enter the highly competitive local auto market...

This shows that Pinoys have the capability of coming with their own vehicles probably in the future...

I once had an EMPI style dune buggy. During the mid-eighties, most of the car manufacturers had left the Philippines (including mighty Toyota) so a Beetle based car was a good idea. VW parts were still plenty and cheap. We knew this guy who had a repair shop. He used to make buggies and he still had the fiberglass moulds. He could have one assembled for me. And he did.

It was my first car. Since it was my only car, I drove it everywhere - to malls, to school, to dates, to a funeral (no choice as we all could not fit into the family car) and to work. I drove it every start of the week to Batangas (where I used to work) and back to Manila for the weekend. I drove it in all sorts of weather, from sunny days to typhoon strength wind and rains. Cloudy days meant that the top came off and the magic begins.

Imagine this: you're the center of attention, people smile at you, kids scream with delight on seeing your car, chicks want to ride in your car. And the price of admission isn't that much since it's just a VW.

The downside? There is no place to put luggage. Bad weather protection consists of plastic curtains. The ride is stiff and the cowl shakes when driving over rough roads. Side impact protection is non-existent (it's just fiberglass between you and another vehicle). A buggy with a stock VW engine is not very fast. Most cars today will out-run it.

But on smooth rural winding roads, on a cloudy day, there's nothing like driving a dune buggy. With its top down of course.

I had to sell my car when I went overseas. I miss it so much.

And I think this type of vehicle is very applicable to Philippine terrain and weather especially during the dry season....especially in the provinces--specifically in resort towns.....in beaches.....in tagaytay...in Baguio....in Bukidnon.....

One problem with the dune buggy is that there's no space for anything else but pasengers. Maybe attaching a fashionable trailer to it can solve the problem.

*buggyboy,

You should also post your ACR Buggy in the Volkswagen club of the Philippines forums (vwcp.org). I'm sure many VW enthusiasts there would be interested in what you are doing.

Suggested future projects:
- offer other buggy body styles like EMPI or Meyer Manx (para retro).
- VW based hummer.

Question: How did you make the clutch and accelerator cables shorter?

with high prices of oil, small cars are becoming a necessity...

A mini car bro? We have few design na dinidevelop ngayun....Maraming nag ask sa amin kung pwede ba gawing Aircon ung buggy... Pweding pwede mga bro...Gawin namin fiberglass hardtop bro at install ung aircon..kaya lang vinyl lang ung side cover...Pero kung gusto nyo mga bro, soft top at aircon, pwede rin...we can make the soft top foldable ( Ala Mustang na top down) ....lahat pwede basta request ng clients......yung buggy compare sa bettle..mas may power ito at efficient sa gas kasi , almost 50% weight difference nila..atsaka matipid din sa gulong...thank you sa fiberglass body shells..

ACR Buggy: proudly made in Iloilo

Passion par excellence of two Acdol generations

The Acdol family
Iloilo City is home to two generations of Volkswagen experts and hobbyists who have edefined car restoration, general auto body repair and the works. This passion has brought the family together in continued pursuit for anything Volkswagen.
Meet 38-year-old Nonoy Acdol, creator of ACR Buggy, son of the man behind Acdol & Sons Auto Repair Shop, then and now the byword for city's Volkswagen repair needs.
Since the first Volkswagen repair in 1976, Acdol father and sons have not stopped with Nonoy, now the man that his father is – Volkswagen lover and enthusiast.
Nonoy began his auto repair shop immersion during his high school days for the hard-earned additional allowance he wanted. Fast forward to today, Nonoy is into his 10th creation of ACR Buggy – the latest cool thing to hit Iloilo.

ACR Buggy
Air-cooled engine. Buggy-body made of fiberglass and with that glossy and glittery finish. Really impressive interior and exterior. And to top it all – proudly made In Iloilo.
What is even more impressive in this Acdol creation is that each buggy may come as one desires – the sporty-looking version, the off-road type or that race-car look. Yes. Your ACR Buggy comes custom-made and in a rust-free fiberglass shell.
Nonoy has assembled an all-Ilonggo team of skilled auto shop workers, all unassuming yet precise in every detail of the buggy.

ACR Buggy
Acdol and Sons has indeed gone a long way in car restoration, general auto body repair and the works. To see is to believe, so see and believe. ACR Buggy. Another reason why Iloilo City will be the next big thing.

Another Ilonggo ingenuity. Just a little help from the government sector and maybe in the near future we will have our own local brand of cars.
