So if thats the case, why not use the chinese truck that has Ehnriko's cab and bolt-on the same "PV" rear passenger section?

Is it possible to have a jeepney exchange program similar to the US cash-for-clunkers? Jeepney owners / operators turn in their old units in exchange for a subsidized new type of jeepney or mini bus.

Where will the money come from to pay for such a program? From YOUR taxes. From higher income tax, sales tax, fuel tax, etc. And higher jeepney fares.

If taxes will be used for such a program, I would rather have the status quo or a full phase out of the privately operated PUJ franchise system and replaced with a franchise only for company owned/operated mini-buses.

i believe we have a lot of designs already implemented nationwide, especially in the provinces. operators / transport cooperatives can choose their preferred design and have these approved by the LTFRB.

in order to solve the growing motor vehicle traffic what is needed are the ff:

1. Implement a long-term mass transport system (a train system) especially in congested areas of the metro, as well as in developing areas like export processing zones or BPO areas. If train stations are strategically placed, and trains are properly maintained, this will ensure that the public will refer to the train system as the most efficient and most convenient form of transport. This will then lessen the dependency of people on jeepneys.

2. A government drive designating jeepney routes as an alternative transport in areas where buses and trains are not feasible.

3. Cooperation of jeepney operators and transport cooperatives in converting jeepneys into buses (or mini-buses).

sir ghosthunter i dont wanna burst your bubble..In reality even how much we dream to be like other modern countries that have a systamatic public transportation system it my never happen in our country. i may seem mean, but sorry this is reality..Our goverment may not be able to fund such a massive change in mass public transportation. Mini buses? Mmmmm some streets in metro manila and in provinces are a tight fit for even jeepneys so more for mini busses..sir ghosthunter no offense or anything im just stating my opinion..this is a very intresting topic but we may have to submit to defeat and accept that the jeepney is here to stay..But, we can still work on the jeepney design and make strict regulations that can discipline jeepney drivers and get those jeepneys that look like and run like sh!t off the roads..if the jeepneys in manila looked like the jeepneys in batangas, manila might be a little more pleasing to the eyes.

sorry sir ghosthunter i misunderstood what you meant i hope i didnt offend you in any way. I guess if they cant take the jeepneys of the roads i think they should make them more uniform..regardless if they are privately owned the should all be painted the same color or depending on there routes..each route has its own designated color. The picture of the fuso canter with ipv cab in the back is also a good idea especially if it will be airconditioned.but again they should also have uniform color scheme depending on route. .

Honestly, the problem is not the vehicle but the "boundary" system.

Replacing the vehicles will not solve the real problem.

yes, you also have a good point sir...thats why drivers drive like maniacs to make their boundery and a bit more..this is what makes them disregard the law just too earn a buck but creates so much chaos on the streets.

I have the same opinion. Well said.

But for me, I'm up for abolishing the jeepneys to be replaced by busses. I believe they should put a time table for any public vehicle...10 years should be good enough. Anything older should have a complete overhaul and body repair if they want to continue using the vehicle for public transport.

When I was in the primary grade school, there were practically only buses plying the Quiapo routes to UP, Kamuning and other places that I now do not recall. Then as up to now abuses by the drivers of this vehemoths of the road is numerous... really big bullies of the road.

I remember the long ques of buses that even then with so much less vehicles on the road the traffic inQuiapo is as what it is today except the vehicles causing the heavy traffic and jams were mostly buses.

What we really need is mass transport systems that reach even the innermost parts of Metro-Manila as what they have in Sydney, Australia and the Washing DC, area.

This would cut travel time and would be an incentive for car owners to leave their vehicles at home and thus not only minimize traffic but also lessen greatly greenhouse emissions.

The Jeepney here in the philippines symbols the trade mark of our country .I think jeepney will still be there cause lots of our jeepney driver earn there living. Now a days its hard to find job and survival is the main reason why jeepney will still be there.

whats that link suppose to be for?

anyways i think the jeepneys out in the provinces are better than here in manila.. in the case of Cagayan de Oro city.. majority of jeepneys in the city are of the same design. i feel jeepneys travelling longer distances are slowly losing out to the biggest bus company in the philippines..

if we really wanted to improve the public transport system in manila.. we dont have to look far to get a good example... thailand has a pretty good transport system.

unfortunately filipinos dont like to see changes if its goin to cost them something..
am i right guys?

OT lang.. i like what Mar Roxas said in a radio talk show the other day. He said he wanted to make the filipino people to be proud of their birth certificates, rather than be proud to have a passport.i think 90% of filipinos would rather leave the philippines and make other countries better..
