Hi akisidom,
I prefer the classic one, because we own that same one before, im planning to assemble it again since my brother took it apart, the good thing about the classic one is you can seat comfortably because the passengers is in the correct seating positionnot like the modern one leg and seating postion is crampped. i remember on the 90's they add some fiberglass hardtop and doors on the classic one. and to top it all they add a aircondition on it, so passengers will not struggle the hot & humid temperature on the road. that's why im inquiring to jewels navotas the cost for the said project.
cheers!
suspension:
leaf springs are OK. they(assemblers) just need to know how to integrate it with the design correctly. the correct spring rate and energy damping can make the ride better.
if you have seen the first part of the indiana jones 4 movie, where teenagers are in a ford t-bucket, you will see how this leaf-springed car managed to drive on the unpaved shoulder at hi-speed without throwing the passengers overboard.
but people who buy OTJ dont want it fr that purpose. they want to be able to put more load, so assemblers use stiffer springs.
to meet the soft ride and the load requirement, at the rear, air bags should be installed to help stiffen the spring rate when required.
at the front, transverse leaf springs will work better as it will give a softer ride, enough space for the wheel to make tighter turns. coill springs would be more costly to maintain for people with OTJ's
engine:
hi power engines will be cool. but.....people who need this car dont need extra power. they just need power to be able to drive a fully loaded OTJ at around 70kph on the highway. An electronic ignition, turbo 4k is good enough.
body:
material:
reason why people want stainless is because it looks good with less maintenance effort - makintab na di pa agad kakalawangin. di na papipinturahan. but stainless is heavy - this would affect fuel efficiency, braking, tires. it should have the less-maintenance characteristic, but lighter.
styling:
to be continued......

Most newer assembled OTJs are using 12 valve toyota
engines plus coil spring. They are also "equipped" with discarded dashboard of old kia prides.
Lowered mostly and less burloloy.
I think from the latest posts, we can conclude that people who would want to have an OTJ does not want ultra modern, ultra expensive systems in it. kaya ang OTJ natin di nagbabago ang mg parts, style lang ang nag-iiba.
pwede. look at this:

I bet these are the laughing stock at the Jeep forums, the ride is likely awful on that Jeep with the dubs.
A true Jeep should have 4 wheel drive solid axle front and back and if you are really trying to make a Wrangler type then use a 3 link front with a triangulated 4 link. Now if it's going to be a lowered one then don't use a Jeep body but try to make it one of those Ford Deuce designs so it can look like a hot rod and it wouldn't be out of place with a 4 banger as long as it had power.
if you really want to use a comfortable lowrider OTJ, use softer leaf springs and dont load it beyond the max it can handle.
We used to deal with original MB jeep parts, customer namin mga local and foreign army jeep enthusiast. Some of local customers would assemble MB jeeps using authentic and replica parts. Depending on the aunthenticity, bibebenta nila ung jeeps nila for PhP 250-300k to mga collectors abroad. I doubt u can do that to a modern CJ jeep...
