VTEC model 96 Tune up/Timing

One mechanic told me that the vtec doesnt need to be tuneup/timing... Sabi nya, palit lang ng sparkplugs, air filter, oil change ay okey na....The computer box is the one making the timing of the engine..Is this true?

in essence yes.

every 40k kms also have the tappets adjusted and have the intake manifold cleaned. also replace the fuel filter.
