how cheap are those repair kits if you don't mind?

because I recall a 4d56 turbo repair kit costs 12k.

CT-9 can be found in many Toyota Townace's. a whole 2c-t engine could cost only 18k. I believe the turbo alone will cost a lot lower than that...however CT-9 can have different pipe location, but still very possible to connect.

however, you still need to research if they are really 100% compatible, because starlet is gasoline right?

well from what i read in www.toyotagtturbo.com they cost around P4500 but then you would have to ship it from the U.K. which would be pretty expensive i guess..yup the starlet is a gasoline engine..they also told me that the hi-ace as a ct-9 turbo on it..just not sure where you can get surplus turbos..hmm i'm a newbie at this and this is my first car just wanted to know why these kits can't be fabricated..i'm used to my motorcycle because i owned a kymco spike before and they didn't see any parts for this so most of the repairs i we would do if gaskets were damaged we just fabricated them and other parts that couldn't be fabricated we would find compatible parts from other motorcycles hehe

so they are saying ct-9 from hiace is compatible?

then it's applicable to lite/town/ace/emina as well...

and if it's the hiace 2L-T or 3L-T they are taking about, check mo din Hilux Surf and old model land cruiser Turbo... baka CT-9 din yun...

bigyan mo nalang ng kunting tiyaga maghanap... bawat tindahan dyan bisetahan mo na.

btw, may turbo shop specialist ba dyan sa inyo? hindi daw nila maayos? ano po ba daw ang sira sa turbo mo?

well i'm not really sure if my turbo is the problem but it could be because my starlet is shooting out clouds of smoke especially if i'm sitting in idle for a few minutes and then drive off or if i start the car in the morning..the smoke is continous even when i'm driving but isn't as bad as if i'm accelerating hard then alot of smoke comes out...the mechanic said it could be valve seals, someone else told me it could be piston rings, valve guides or even my turbo. so far i've been researching about damaged turbos and they said that you would hear noises and find oil in the turbo charger..there are no noises besides when i'm accelerating i hear a whistling noise then when i shift gear the blow off valve sounds but i'm pretty sure these are normal because it did this before it started smoking.. i haven't been able to check the turbo to see if there is oil because i'm a newbie in the automobile world i'm used to working on motorcycles..thanks so much for the help

to find oil in the turbo charger is normal, unless the oil is too much... or the much oil is located from the engine's exhaust turbo pipe lines.

the whistle noise indicates that your Turbo is working and compressing the air, noise is from air escapes via wastegate, which is normal to regulate pressure, unless the air escapes other than the wastegate.

from what I understand from your description...

you have acceptable normal smoke while accelerating fast, then when you come to a quick stop, smoke will just come out like you are having a barbeque?

is the exhaust smell odd and bad?

    is your Oil consumption bad?

if it is yes, to all 3 question, it's likely the Turbo, but not definitely. the oil in the exhaust could be coming from the engine...

if you are going to check the Turbo, the too much oil should be in the two exhaust Turbo pipe. NOT in the two intake pipe lines like I said... and conclude/confirm the oil source is from the Turbo, not the Engine...

btw, I asked someone expert over toyota van forums if starlet will fit from vans. he says unlikely... but only side-by-side comparison will confirm...

thank you very much for the helpful info..actually the smoke is bad if i accelerate hard (very rare since its always traffic and we have small streets here) if i'm stopping or at idle little smoke comes out or sometimes none at all..but if i drive off again puffs of smoke come out especially if i've been sitting in idle for a couple minutes..i haven't noticed anything about the odor of the smoke..then again i wouldn't know what odor is odd..the appearance of the smoke is bluish so its most likely burning oil..had an oil change about 2 weeks ago, tuned it up and changed all the sparkplugs with bosch platinum plugs and i checked the oil the other day and its still at full..in terms of acceleration everything seems fine but then again i could be wrong because i've only had the car for 3 weeks and haven't been able to test the full capacity of its power...there is also something else i noticed lately..when i'm in idle every 5 to 10 seconds there is small pop or sputtering sound coming out of the exhaust like "pis pis pis"

the "pis pis pis" sound or "tik tik tik" sound coming from my muffler has gotten worst and now my car is really jerky when driving all of a sudden...i'm guessing the sparkplugs are fouled up with all the oil that has been burned up along with the gasoline...but then again i could be wrong...

I don't think your problem is the Turbo, I'd go for the Engine maybe valve seals, valve guides or piston rings.

I recommend you post a new thread... so you can have Expert opinion about your real problem. (not about the repair kits)

and I think you should check your water and oil daily from now on... who knows what will happen next...
