AKAIK, kung naka idle and the belt snaps the engine would just die. Restarting the engine could bent the lifters unless you have a non interference engine. Of course how would you know if the timing belt is broken without having soemone turn the ignition while you lok at the pulleys.

kung may available na timing belt na gawa sa urethane na tatama sa specifications ng engine mo, you might wanna consider it, kasi mas durable siya by more than 3 times compared to rubber, kaya lang prize niya ganun din ka mahal, at least mas lesser na yung hassle sa pag replace niyan... ang belts marami niyan sa binondo, karamihan dun mga industrial use na belts kasi, mga direct importer sila, i'm sure mas mura siya kaysa sa banawe...

kakapalit ko lang ng timing belt. I have mitsubishi lancer El 1996 but its in good condition and 71,000 km amd odometer. pumunta ako ng kasa and they charged me 7 thou lahat lahat pati oil seals and tensioner and labor pero nakausap ko ung mekaniko and bulimi kami sa labas ng kasa lahat ng parts na orig pati na rin engine and trans. supports. he make the whole thing on a sunday and it only cost me 5.5k lahat lahat na. its a good deal since sure ako na orig lahat ng parts.

Also don't rely much on the mileage of the car if you dont used it on a daily basis take in consideration also how old the car is. A timing belt is basically a rubber belt they can snap when its old. With my 96 lancer it only traveled 50k KM but it was 8 years old so just as a precaution I have it changed
