alam ko na ang modus operandi ni Rapide!! hehehe..
after they do their "premium service" tune-up, they find a host of problems with your vehicle, tapos that's where they make their money.
anyway, as expected on a 100T km car, they found 29K worth of repairs to be done on my 626 (that's excluding the leaking power-steering pump, since they don't do steering pump repairs).
to wit..
shock absorbers - 14400
tie rod end (2) - 1200
rack end (2) - 2000
wheel alignment - 1200 (required by the two above)
oil seals - 660
balancer belt - 1300
balancer bearing - 1400
tensioner bearing - 2150
timing belt (OEM) - 1700
labor - 1500
actually the pricing of the timing belt etc. is not so bad, since 1800 ang lowest price ng OEM timing belt na nakita ko. the 2 bearings aren't OEM, but somewhere on this forum someone said the 2 bearings are 3000 kung SKF, so their price ain't too bad. also, i was expecting that the timing belt and ang mga alagad niya all have to be changed, so the latter recommendations were not a surprise.
however.. napapa-isip tuloy ako as to ano ang i-prioritize ko. definitely hindi ko muna palitan shocks, wala sa budget. besides, mukhang OK pa naman yung ride. pero yung steering components (exclusing the PS pump) -- hindi ba dapat unahin ko yun kahit dun sa timing belt & co? nakakatakot na loose yung steering lalo na mag mabilis magpatakbo..
also, ok na ba yung prices na quote nila?

actually, sa Rapide ito, sa Park Square. i assume mas mahal sa casa. yung shocks.. 3600 each yun kaya 14400. ang tokico shocks, mga 2200 - 2300 each kung bilhin sa banawe (mahal talaga shocks ng 626). so i assume mga 1300 yung labor nila, per wheel.
di ko pa nga sila natanong, kung magkano change shocks, kung labor lang, ako provide shocks. anyway, later na talaga yung shocks, so i'm trying to find out kung ano mas important, yung steering or yung timing belt & friends. next sweldo nalang yung isa.. huhuhu.. :P

KYB makes OEM shocks for most Japanese vehicles. They supply Mitsubishi, Toyota, and the other major brands. Actually sa Pilipinas lang walang respeto ang consumers sa KYB brand.
For cheaper suspension parts, try looking for original Three Five (555) brand. Supplier din sila ng mga manufacturers. Off-road tested na ng mga DC.org peeps ang Three Five components. They come in the orange and black box. I think they are sold in the U.S. as MOOG.
After I had the suspension work done hindi na ko nagpa-align. More than a year later pantay pa din ang kain ng gulong.
PM Ungas for bearings.

first, get a second opinion from a mechanic you trust. make sure this stuff really needs to be replaced.
assuming all of these repairs really are needed, unfortunately i think most of the stuff needs to be done. the suspension/alignment if not fixed will lead to greater problems later on and is potentially dangerous. the oil seal and belt replacements will potentially save you from a full engine rebuild later on (any gurus know if the 626 has an interference-type engine?)
you might be able to skate by without replacing the shocks right away (papangit lang yung ride mo), and live without power steering for a while before you can replace the pump.
that's what i would do...

August 10th, 2003 12:51 AM #10don't forget about the timing belt, have they shown you the conditions of the timing belt? If it is still the original belt, you may want to prioritize replacing the timing belt now.
It's looking a lot like a certain cruiser with that color scheme.
