    Car is Gen1 CRV
    Location: Baguio

    This is what happened:

Yesterday, had my radiator overhauled. So pull down radiator, then overhauling went ok naman for around 2 to 3 hrs then re-install radiator, filled it with a 50/50 coolant/water mixture, and turned on engine. So ok na daw at around 2pm. Weather was quite hot that time. I went on and drove for around 10 kms. Pag dating sa bahay, when I was going to park na on a quite rolling road, shifted to R, pero parang hindi nag engage yung AT, so car rolled forward. So I had to step on the accelerator hard para mag reverse. So next thing I did was to shift to D4, and same results where I need to step hard on the accelerator for the car to move. Tried also D3, 2 & 1 pero same din. So parked for mga 5 mins and decided to go to my mechanic. Then I drove off again and medyo hirap nga umandar. After driving halfway or around 5 kms, I had to make a full stop. After the full stop, ayaw na umandar. Shifted to D3, 2 then 1... no luck. Shifted to R, ganun pa rin, ayaw gumalaw. Checked temp guage, nasa half naman (which is normal temp reading). Also checked water/coolant pero ok naman level on the reservoir. So I called up my mechanic for help. Waited for around 1 hr. Pag dating ng mechanic, checked the ATF, hindi naman amoy sunog. Checked the ATF level and normal naman daw. So medyo lumamig na engine by that time, we test drove & ok nanaman. We drove for more or less 15 kms, and no problems. So what we did was brought the car to the shop and I decided to have the ATF changed.(Used Mobil ATF). If checked from the dipstick, ATF is somewhat reddish, pero pag drain, very dark ang color. So far since the ATF change yesterday, the car was running ok.

I am wondering if this had something to do with the radiator overhaul? Is it possible that the ATF overheated? or is the tranny busted?-- I hope not.

Need your inputs/opinions. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, tinamaan kaya yung tranny oil cooler?

The fact na bumago takbo mo after changing the oil (and tumakbo) malamang di tranny directly ang may sayad...

Baka nga nag overheat... You can't really "smell" it naman talaga.

When was the last time you changed ATF btw and what car?

Thanks for the quick reply sir theveed. Car is a Gen1 CRV. Actually, just acquired it last Feb and was not able to ask the previous owner when was the last ATF change.

My suspect also is that when the radiator man checked it for leaks by drowning the radiator in water, baka nalagyan tubig yung dinadaanan ng ATF tapos hindi nya na drain and humalo tubig sa tranny. Pwede kaya mangyari ito? What would be the ill effects kaya? Thanks again.

check mo, patakbuhin mo ung makina, kambio mo muna from P to L then vice versa, with 1 sec interval each..while the engine is running check mo atf level mo..dapat nasa between ng L and H level yan..

kung 2 ung level sa dipstick, dapat nasa:

    1. cold L and H level if 1st buhay ng makina mo ng araw na ito..
    2. hot L and H if mainit na tranny mo/ idling ka ng more than 5-10 minutes....

un tamang pagcheck ng ATF, unlike ung engine oil, before buhayin ang makina..teka binaba mo din ba ung oil pan and filter when you oil change?dapat right specs yang atf mo, di lang sa brand yan...at mga 5-8 liters ang lahat-lahat ng atf na kailangan mo kung papalitan mo... 2-4 liters sa pan, 2-3 sa torque converter and the rest ay nasa internal ng tranny..dapat palitan lahat un for maximum performance...

pagalis ng atf sa tranny ay dapat, before starting, at nakapagpalit ka na sa oil pan, disconnect mo muna ung papuntang oil cooler, at tsaka patakbuhin mo ung makina...siyempre tutulo sa line, kaya ready dapat sasalok dun sa matatapon na langis... now until estimate mong medyo mapula na ung sinusukang langis, then stop mo ung makina....balik mo ung lines na tinangal mo, then lagay ka ulit ng atf na ayon sa tamang level, ha....

Thanks sir alwayz_yummy.... well, amoy sweet & sour ang atf.

since the oil change, no problems so far (mga 4 days na.. whew). and gumanda ang shifting. Hindi na din laging downshift ang tranny kase before, konting slow down lang sa curves eh downshift na.

Thanks again for the detailed reply
