back to the topic:
anywayz, here in the US it is required that all vehicles to have OBD systems & Smog Equipments (specially on Gasoline engines... Diesel engines are exempted.. for now.) and wether if its a Japanese, European or American car, as long as the vehicle is sold and operated here in the United States, it has to comply with the Air Resource Board (for ex: CARB = California Air Resource Board) & EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
this CARB program is made to help reduce dangerous Exhaust Gas Emissions or SMOG, specially in heavy populated states (like here in California).
so even though the OBD (ex: OBD-0,1,2a,2b.. etc.) & Emission systems (ex: O2 sensor, EGR valve, PCV valve, Catalytic Converter, Smog Pump, Charcoal Canister.. etc.) are different on each vehicles (different in terms of shape, location, size, abreviations, part #'s, etc..). they still have to work the same way (which is to maximize Fuel Efficiency, reduce Exhaust Gas Emmisions or SMOG and to help protect & save the Environment.)
aite, peace.
